I know this engine has only been used in the Rangers since 2001 but has anyone logged over 100,000 miles with one yet?

View Full Version : Duratec 2.3 Durability? Big Bubba May 19 2006, 01:29pm I know this engine has only been used in the Rangers since 2001 but has anyone logged over 100,000 miles with one yet? BlueMan May 19 2006, 02:27pm Do some searching - there are several that have 150,000+ on then already. pstang May 19 2006, 02:46pm this guy just hit 200,000: http://www.rangerpowersports.com/forum/showthread.php?t=185008 br0k3n May 19 2006, 10:17pm Yea I have 105,000 on my '03, still get 29 mpg city. This is a nice motor. Big Bubba May 20 2006, 09:12am Do some searching - there are several that have 150,000+ on then already. I did some searching.......there is no mention on the Ford website that this engine is called a Duratec. The Focus and Escape have a Duratec according to Ford but no mention of the Ranger. I figure an engine that revs as freely as the 2.3 would have to live forever if you take it easy on it. BlueMan May 20 2006, 12:39pm You won't find info on the Ford site about the "lima" engine either, but that's what it's known as. I meant search here - there are several posts of duratec owners with 100K+ experiences already since it's been in there since half way through '01. BTW - revving freely has nothing to do with engine life, just a non-restrictive airflow (thanks to the 16v head, intake, and exhaust). Roller cams and good oiling properties, along with proper maintence will help just about any engine live a long time, especially when like you said "you take it easy on it." NoFrillsRanger Nov 03 2007, 04:21pm I have 93K on my 2003. Not a single problem with the engine. Some some minor junk with the blower motor, etc. Rebel Ranger Nov 03 2007, 06:53pm Some of the Ranger fleet trucks we service at work have over 300K one them, and they do get the hell beat out of them.No major engine problems, just regular service and a few clutch replacements. ClayKann101 Nov 04 2007, 12:57am Currently at 131,000 new clutch at 90K just cause it was making a weird noise. Other than that i drive it like a ride my mx bike hauling ass and revving out the gears. Nick Nov 04 2007, 10:14am My 04 was an Orkin inspction quote truck. I got it with 64xxx on it 5 months ago and now she's at 75xxx. It's been good to me thus far. Gave me a scare up in greensfield a couple weeks ago when the truck stalled out and wouldnt start again. Turned out my friend stomped on the cutoff switched on accident bechtoea Nov 04 2007, 06:29pm I have stated this in other posts, but we'll put it here as well...since you're asking. I currently have 101K on the truck. It's a 2002 Regular cab XL 4cyl/5spd. Let's see, I have had to replace the following: 25K: Battery (Started leaking, replaced under warranty) 45K: Ball Joint 55K: Alternator 60K: Thermostat I have also had the rotors turned once. Outside of that, the truck runs like a watch. |
