ok i need some help from you v8 guys or any one else who has any idea, my buddy has a supercharged 98 mustang cobra, we were debating how much psi it could run as a daily driver and not have any issues, the engine is stock with just the supercharger added.
how much boost can he push through this engine with out blowing it?????? thanks for your help

It all depends on the tune. There are a lot of factors that need to be discussed. Try TURBOMUSTANGS.COM. Do some searches before you ask questions and you will find someone will help you.

You would probably do better going to a Mustang specific site on this question as stated. The reason being is that most here have pushrod motors in the trucks.

But, also as stated, there are many factors that would have to be included to make a guess. This is true of any blown motor. The tune does have a huge impact as has already been stated. Other factors would be the use of an intercooler, type(octane) of fuel used, and such.

I sure did put "as stated" a lot didn't I? Just trying to give everyone their kudos.

I really don't know all that much about the modular motors. But 12 psi is what I read over and over from folks with both the Windsors and the Modulars. Throw a charge cooler, Mr Freeze, and other stuff and I'm sure it could be higher.

dont quote me on this, but at the boost level i think your gonna break ringlands in those engines. by all means check around.:drunk:

:offtopic: Can't comment on that engine, but I've driven trucks with Caterpillar diesels that would peg 32-35 lbs boost on the gauge.:lastweek:

diesels are a whole lot different than a regular motor they are made to handle that much boost and prolly more

Diesels not only are made for high boost, but rely on high boost, in order to initiate combustion!

I can tell you that a buddy of mine has an 03 Cobra. It is a stock motor with a pulley change, exhaust, and a tune. It puts down 476 hp at the tires.

Those motors come with a factory intercooler which is what allows him to run 13 psi.

Now the question would be, does a 98 use the same internals as the 03? If so, here is a good example.

On a side note, and according to my buddy, the modulars have a pretty poor cooling system design. His 03 cannot sustain long duration pulls such as canyon or road racing. Just cruising around in traffic with the air on will push the temp up to 250. Eventually, and if hammered on at this kind of temp, the head gaskets tend to let go.

I'm pretty sure the 03-04 cobra has manley rods and forged pistons. Those motors are a good bit stouter than the 96-98 motors.
