Ran this past friday, had some good runs and a couple bad ones.

Best ET 15.66 @ 84.754mph
Best MPH 85.075 @ 15.848

Learned that where you are in the 1ft staging area makes big difference. I've also got a pair of 15*10inch oval course slicks. They hook up a lot quicker. I was the first one on the track and it was way cool to see my 10inch wide burnout there :>

The 15.66 isn't my best time as I thought it was, here's a run w/o the big tires:

15.630 @ 86.835, 1/8th 9.989 @ 70.099

Whats wild is the time differences, looking back at other days I've run 86mph but with 16sec et's and now I've run 15 sec et's at 84mph....very odd.

Well this might not be the reason, but my guess is that you're hooking up and getting out of the hole a lot quicker on the slicks, but that they may be taller than the tires you're running 86 mph on and they are hurting your overall accelleration.

How tall are the slicks? 28"? I know that my 255/50ZR17 (27" tall) tires are noticeably taller than my 225/70R14's (26.4" tall), and they definitely hurt accelleration but do give a bit better traction for a more aggressive launch.

How were your short times on the slicks compared to the regular tires? (60' times)

Later,
Ben

P.S. I used the tire size calculator on www.4lo.com

I agree with Ben, it's probably a combination of better traction but overall higher gearing with the taller tires. What kind of gears are you running now? Really good times either way you look at it, should give some GT's a run for their money.

These speeds and times are taken right off the 1/4 mile slips..not my reading the speedo. So I'm not really sure whats going on.

do you have an explorer or a ranger? what gears do you have?

Sounds like the fuel pump helped a bit? Anyways I didn't know you were running the Pro-M 77mm unit on your truck too. Which size injectors do you have? Do you like the unit? I ran the Motorsports cobra 70 last year but i have the Pro-M 77 this year for 30's and I'm looking for some input from some guys with it on a 4.0. later Thanks Doug904.

uuummmm.... just wondering what you ran BEFORE the blower? I ask because I would have figured high 14's for a blown Ranger.

My regular cab splash with headers, 24lbs inj., 70 mm mass air, and c4 ran 14.56 without any tuning and 150K on the clock. His is doing very well being its a ext. cab. He just starting out though and is begining to work some bugs out. Later Doug904.

MazdaSOHC/Ben L. - The slicks are 27.1 and the daily drivers are 26.3. There is a difference, I'm just having one of those moments where no matter how much it gets explained to me, I just don't get it.

ranger4oh - I have a 2wd 94 SC Splash with A4LD tranny and Auburn locker on 3.55 gears.

DOug904 - I have the stock 19 pounders. I bought the MAF off of ford ranger.com last summer for 100.00. It made a noticeable difference(ie: more than just noise) for me.

rangerSVT2000 - My best last year w/o the blower was a 16.98. I ran 17.1's consistantly. Another thing to consider is that I'm not what one would consider a small individual. I'm one of the few who could fill in gilbert brown's uniform with no modifications. I've been told that every 100 pounds is a 10th of a second. And a friend who is a good 200 pounds lighter than I ran over 2 10ths faster in my truck than I did on the same day.

Doug904 - I agree with conversations you and I've had before regarding the C4 on my truck. It would make one heck of difference and I could probably shave a lot more time off the 1/4s but I wouldn't have the driveability that I want.

Well here is my opinion...
A4LD transmissions are real bad about transfering horsepower to the wheels. The new transmissions on 97 + Rangers like the 5R55E, which is a 5 speed auto are better. You should really invest in a Transgo Shift kit. I know JTR has one on his Splash. The shift kit will make a big difference on reducing your times. Maybe synthetic fluids on your differential and Trans will be better off too.

RangerPete - I bought the trans go shift kit, and the 2 tranny guys I had look at it said they wouldn't recommend doing it as it would dramatically shorten the life of the tranny. Unfortunately, I can't remember why. I'm running AMSOil syn's in the tranny right now, and waiting on my check book getting bigger so I can replace the drums with discs and then put AMSOil in the diff again.

Never heard of a Transgo kit dramatically shortening the life of the tranny. These kits are supposed to extend the life of the tranny as a result of more efficient shifting patterns (= cooler operation). If you could talk to the tranny guys again, I would like to hear how they came to that conclusion.

RSplash40, the difference in tire diameter isn't much, but it is still a 3% difference in diameter between the two tire sizes. It would amount to the difference between having 3.73's in the truck and changing to 3.62's to race (if they made them). Maybe you need a lower gear? Is the trans making another shift before hitting the end of the quarter that it didn't before?

On the Transgo kits, I've never heard of them shortening the life of the trans, like MachRanger said they usually extend it. They do so by increasing the fluid pressure to the trans, which allows it to slip less before shifting. Less slip = less heat = longer life, and generally better quarter mile times.

I have 84mph in the 1/4 but my time was but a 16.27. That was with the 3.08 gears. Keep up with the tuning and what else you can squeeze out of the Ranger. good luck:)
