wondering if anyone else has this problem? i have an 05 ranger with just over 13k on it and ever since i bought it(only about 7k ago) the gas pedal seems like its catching on something. it is hard to push initially which makes taking off and manipulating the clutch hard when i cant really add just a little throttle...its either none or a ton. at first it takes a lot of force to move the pedal at all, but after that initial force it take almost none to move it and its really smooth feeling(like i think it should be) it sort of feels like the cable or pedal is hanging up on something. has anyone else experienced anything like this? im gonna try and wd40 the throttle cable and pedal assemblies tomorrow but just figured id ask and see what everyone had to say on the issue. thanks in advance guys.

take your air tube off the throttle body and spray the insides with carburator cleaner while your moving around your throttle blade. (while the car is turned off) you'll notice that its all crusty with carbon deposits causing the throttle to stick initially. or you could take off the actual throttle body and give a thorough cleaning.

Take it to the dealer - that's what warranties are for!

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had mine replaced on my '05 Ranger last year with about 7-8K miles on it. Yes definately a carb/throttle body cleaning is in need but, why not get a new one for free!!!

The gas pedal in my 06 felt the same way. When the engine was off the pedal felt fine all the time and when the engine was running the first initial touch of the throttle was sticky.
Ford fixed it and it is a lot nicer to idle in traffic now.

Yup, mine was like this @ 1000 miles. They replaced the whole throttle body. 2 issues resolved.

I just bought mine and Iam the second owner. Anyone ever had any problems changing the name on the warrenty because I want to get my throttle body replaced also. I have intial stickyness in my gas pedal, and it gets worse when it is cold also.

The warranty is on the truck and whoever owns it doesn't matter. If it is an extended warranty it must be transfered from owner to owner.

My 07 Ranger has this same problem (18k on the clock). I'm going to bring it in this week, hopefully they'll replace the throttle body. Hopefully this isn't a problem that comes back over time, it would suck to have this happen again outside of the warranty.

this is apparently a big problem... any of the older duratec guys have these problems? 01 to 03? Anyone know what the actual cause is?

thank you captain obvious... it would be nice if someone knew what about the throttle body is causing the issues, I'm assuming its not because its dirty since all of these trucks have under 20K miles. I don't want to buy a new one just to have the same issue (considering the ranger i'm going to look at thursday is an 02 and doesn't have a warranty for me to just replace it for free)... Is the butterfly/tb bore messed up? the actual butterly shaft size to large? etc....

my 02 does it at times and its outta warranty.i can only guess what a throttle body costs.i might try cleanin it with carb cleaner first.

This only happens to me when it's cold outside, guess what it's November. I will take than truck in for repair under warranty. Is there an "official" TSB # which I can refer too?

I think they're having so many complaints on these the dealers are not poking at why it's jacked up, they're just replacing them by the masses. I know it's not dirt, mine did this at 1k miles, but yet mine also had stalling issues like the IACV was not working. Definitely a seasonal issue. And no, the problem does not return once replaced. I've had this TB for 1 year and some change and it feels great, even with the (slight) temp drop.

...And I thought I was the only one!

This is what I get for not reading around these forums more often.

Better get the 2006 Banger Ranger off to the dealer soon. Hopefully they'll do the replacement job. That'd be great.

I looked through the service record on my truck, and found the throttle body was replaced under warranty while it was previously owned... and when I bought this truck, it was "in-service" only about 3 or 4 months.
So, yes, it seems to be a ubiquitous problem...

Now if it'll just get cold enough down here in the south...My gas pedal don't do it unless it gets good and chilly outside. Otherwise, it's barely noticeable.

At any rate, sometime this month, she goes back to the dealer.

Well, I wished for cold temps, and I guess we got 'em. It turned VERY cold this weekend.

The Banger Ranger goes in at the local dealer Tuesday. This isn't the dealer I bought the truck from, but hopefully the other dealer (about 30 miles away) made a note when they tried to clean out the throttle body on the day I took it home. It's been doing this for nearly a year now (bought her in January). I've even sprayed the throttle body a couple times myself, and it's never dirty. We'll see if the dealership will try and replace the thing.

If youre going to spray the throttle body use fuel injection cleaner not carb cleaner which can damage some components & sensors

Went to the local Ford dealer. She gets a new throttle body January 5th.

I haven't noticed this yet on my truck but I'm the second owner so it may have already had the TB replaced. Will have to check it out now that it's cold and I got a notice in the mail saying my warranty was getting ready to expire.

Careful with those warranty notices. That's a popular marketing scheme around here. We get letters and phone calls all the time asking us to re-up our warranty. Junk mail, basically.

GOOD NEWS: Got the throttle body replaced early (dealer got my part faster than they figured on, and squeezed me in). Seems to be fixed. It's pretty stinkin' cold here and no sticky gas pedal yet in the past two days!

hey i didnt think this thread got so many responses. i guess i wasnt the only one with this problem.

i couldnt cash in on the warranty thing because my truck is a rebuilt title so the warranty is void. however the truck has 20k on it now and the sticky pedal has disappeared. i will keep an eye out for it but i havent noticed it in the last 3k miles or so. never got around to cleaning the throttle body so i guess i'll wait and see if it comes back.

Comes and goes on my 04, has since day one. I never thought to bring it to the dealer when it was under warranty, oh well. I guess I did notice it more recently when it was cold out.

The sticky throttle body wouldn't be an issue with an automatic transmission but with a manual it sucked. My dealer had them in stock and I was in and out in 1/2 hour.

Mine stuck for the first time a week ago when on vacation in Oregon. Just after the engine started and I stepped on the gas it was like something under the pedal, so I really pushed on the pedal and it gave way. I have now driven it about 1000K since and have started it maybe a dozen times and it hasn't happened again. It hasn't happened again, but this thread has me a little nervous... But its still under warranty.

I guess I need to wait to see if it starts sticking again. They probably won't replace it if its not sticking...
