now i know i need around 6.5 inchs to lay into the rocker pretty good. now is this laying on the crossmemeber or laying on the frame? the way i see things i should have around a 4 inch stockfloor with the crossmemeber out of the way laying flat out on the frame rails. before i start on a traditional body drop being winter and my body in storage and the frame in the shop i just cant set it back on and look to get a idea. id just like to know how it will sit laying on frame and not crossmemeber with a 4 inch bodydrop. thanks sorry for the noob question but im new to rangers

if im not mistaken, a 4 in body drop will give you a 1/2 inch gap between the frame and ground, as a 3.5" will lay rocker. i would say your layin on crossmember cuz im positive that the frame doesnt hang that low.

no im laying frame i got rid of all the crossmemebers a month or so ago. im thinking with the getting rid of the crossmemeber a 4 inch bodydrop would be a good amount. i know on a s-10 it would lay very good cuz i have had a few s-10s but i dont know much about a ranger. the top pic is laying on the crossmemeber and the bottom pic is after i remade them.

Thats low as hell, most people simply bolt or weld on a crossmember to get it to lay frame. Anyway, laying the actual frame, doesnt the exterior shell of the truck sit lower than the frame anyway. Well it's still a good plan if you plan on dragging, at least the way you've set things up you garunteed not to be dragging anything except the blocks.

blocks r like training wheels no thanks. dragging frame till i tear something up. only reason this trucks being built is to see if we can do a stockfloor body drop. the main use of this trucks going to be dragging comps at car shows and beating on lol. im just hoping laying frame and a 4 inch stockfloor is enuff. i cant figure out how low it will be laying with just that. i think i might need to do another 2.5 inch traditional bodydrop as well

are you doing the work or is someone else? ima a chevy guy too but metal is metal. why are you body dropping it if you want to drag frame? also you're not gonna last verylong draggin frame and waste a lot of build time just to do it again. i could rail my truck hard for less than an hour on the freeway and i bet my frame would be toast. drag blocks or trailer balls if you want the truck to last even just for drag comps.. and you'd throw next to no sparks just draggin rocker and think about how long that would last til there's nothin left... maybe i just dont get what you're askin.. am i missing something?

All you have to do is take a straight edge from the bottom of your rocker over to the frame and make a mark, then measure how far that mark is from the bottom of the frame. That will tell you how much of a body drop you need to lay rocker. I'm really thinking that 6.5" will be way too much, that would probably almost get you to the door, then you're have to cut the rockers off completely.

And just as a general rule, you should lay the truck flat on the frame (raise/replace crossmembers) before a traditional bodydrop. That way you you're not "over" bodydropping it and losing precious headroom.
