Noob here...... These forums are great. I read thru a good number of the threads in this section and used the search function to find any threads that relate to my problem.

When I plug my Innova 3100a code scanner into the diagnostics port, nothing happens. The scanner itself works fine on two other vehicles.

Any insight here before I start digging into the wiring? If there is no power to the power pin on the connector, should I provide power? I don't want to cook the ecu. :confused

Thanks

Since you haven't provided vehicle info and don't have a signature, I will assume that this question is for the 2000 Mazda in your profile....

The Data Link Connector power is shared with the cigarette lighter socket. Check fuse #17 in the dash fuse panel.

Sorry, it is the Mazda. I did the sig after the post and it didn't show up post post.

Coincidentally the cig lighter doesn't work. I'll check that fuse.

Thanks.

Coincidentally the cig lighter doesn't work. I'll check that fuse.

Thanks.Just a heads-up: if the new fuse blows, the lighter socket may be internally shorted to ground - a fairly common failure.
