View Full Version : What Companies Make Storage / Toolboxes For Flare Sided Rangers
HELMUT RONER Jan 08 2007, 01:04am Searching around the net and stores for a brand new toolbox for my 2003 Edge flare-side. All I find are boxes for full-sized trucks. I have only once seen a flare-side like mine with a stainless diamond plate box, but the owner wasn't around for me to ask where he/she got the box from. It would be nice if anyone had actual part numbers if possible. BTW, I'm looking for American-made. No foreign garbage.

I searched the entire forum list, but have not come up with much of anything regarding this topic specifically. :sad2:
silver Jan 08 2007, 06:47am if your in for shipping taknotes has one for sale out of north carolina
ryzenphire Jan 08 2007, 07:11am probably wont help but i have one for sale in ohio not sure of the brand as it isnt on my truck at the moment......
taknotes Jan 08 2007, 08:12am yea mine is a United Welding Service, which is out of Florida i think
coonradkane Jan 08 2007, 08:51am the box i bought for my flare side is made by a company called {Kobalt.} It is made of dimond plate and sits in the bottom of the the truck bed and comes up flush with the bed sides. It's 42" wide so it takes up the entire width of the bed and looks almost as if the box is made specifically for rangers. I bought it at Lowe's but they might have a wibe site
Andrew_2006 Jan 08 2007, 12:06pm here's mine i bought from place locally came to lil over 300$ reason i chose this one is sits below the rails so i can put a cover on, and i didnt really want one that goes over the rails.
but they have whole catologue and i believe place where they order from is in ohio or michigan i forget it says on it.

HELMUT RONER Jan 08 2007, 01:39pm I'm actually looking around in advance. Can't buy one right away. Plus, I hope the thread could serve as a more permenant source of info rather than get offers from individuals (but I do appreciate the offers, guys). I prefer to buy from a retailer.
Thank you for the pictures, Andrew. I actually do want one that goes over the rails, but that box is a nice looking piece. Is there a part number anywhere for that box just in case I do go that route? On the far right of the box in that bottom picture there's a label on the inside. Maybe a part number on it?
04Flareside Jan 08 2007, 03:59pm Helmut,
I have a black high-gloss UWS over the rail aluminum box, just like taknotes box, but powdercoated high-gloss black.
I got it from a local truck accessory store. You can also order a truck box from Home Depot (Husky Brand). No pictures of it so I went with UWS. Very high quality box. I paid just under $300 including tax.
I am actually looking for a topper for my truck now, as it would better serve my needs. I can sell you my box if interested (its mint and less than 3 months old) Where in FL are you located?
Andrew_2006 Jan 08 2007, 05:44pm the label is the date it was made.
HELMUT RONER Jan 08 2007, 06:33pm the label is the date it was made.
I would assume that one stays completely dry when it rains, too? At work I sometimes park on an incline and when it rains the bed tends to fill up about a couple of inches of water sometimes.
04Flareside Jan 08 2007, 07:32pm Guess my posts are invisible.
The good ones like mine are watertight.
taknotes Jan 08 2007, 10:11pm if i were to buy a toolbox, UWS would be the way to go imo, very good boxes
HELMUT RONER Jan 10 2007, 08:45pm No, 04Flareside, your post wasn't invisible. I was asking Andrew specifically about his particular box. I took into account what you mentioned on the UWS box and I'm keeping it in mind for when I go check out some places nearby. I'm not going to buy from an individual. I want to buy from a retailer where I have the option to refund/replace/exchange and/or warranty the item. Again, I want this thread to be a permenant source of info /part numbers on where to source good toolboxes and not have people plugging in personal ads. That's what the classifieds forum, not tech forum, is for. There will always be someone doing future searches on here for this kind of stuff. Part numbers are the most useful info. This reply isn't meant to fire back and to be taken the wrong way. Sorry if it is. I just wanted to to clarify that. This is my first truck so unlike Foxbody Mustangs (which I'm used to working on) I don't know which are the places to check out here or there when it comes to truck accessories.
I checked out a Home Depot yesterday and saw their boxes which look like nice pieces, but as mentioned the one for my application would have to be ordered. At the same time, the Home Depot I went to didn't have a part number available for me to research on my own. I checked out Lowes and they told me they only sell what I see on their shelves. They only have a small selection of toolboxes. Stopped in at a Sears store and Advance Auto Parts and both of those stores' boxes I didn't like from the moment I saw them so I excluded those possibilities.
HELMUT RONER Jan 10 2007, 09:13pm Okay, I just measured the inner edges of my bed and have 46½ inches alond with 18 inches depth with a bedliner from the top edge of the rails. I checked out http://www.unitedweldingservices.com/products.shtml and none of those boxes have the inner width of my truck's bed.
I hate JC Whitney with a passion, but went through their site for referencing. I did happen to come across this part.

I've seen Deflecta-Shield stuff before and they seem pretty well made. Any opinions on this one?
EDIT: Suddenly occured to me to check Summit Racing since I got a lot of my Mustang stuff from them. Their search engine can narrow down the part search to the type of vehicle you have and found this one for the stepsides.

HELMUT RONER Jan 30 2007, 01:53am Found a UWS dealer in Clearwater, FL and got a box installed for under $250 a couple weeks ago. Part number to the box is TBS-54-SPLA

I have a lot of tools & vehicle related fluids to carry around so a low profile box wasn't good enough. I didn't have the extra $50 for the black powder coated box. Wasn't able to wait.
00ranger4x4 Jan 30 2007, 09:51am That looks really sharp. I usually don't like the look of toolboxes but yours looks good. I think its the combo of the black truck w/ alum box and wheels  Hellz yes!
GrizfromKy Feb 18 2007, 06:52pm I got a DeeZee 8649B. If I could figure out how to post a pic I'd do it.:help:

Well, I changed the wheels after I got my tax return last year. I think it looks much better now.

Ponyguy Apr 12 2008, 03:46pm Sharp looking truck! Kinda looks like a big brother to mine...
I thought you were looking for a toolbox that would work with a bed cover? Or did you change your mind?
