Hi All-

Got out to head to work this morning in my 94 2.3L. Took a second hit to get it started which is unusual, but it's been wet and was sitting for a day. Check engine light came on 5 seconds after start.

I let it run for a minute but the light did not clear. Shut her down, and and it would not fire again. Coil pack resistance checks ok. Cannot get flash code by running the jumper on the test connector, may be doing something wrong there...the CEL just goes dark instead of flashing the codes.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Start with the basics. Have you confirmed fuel and spark?

Has the timing belt ever been changed?

Thanks Rockledge!
Update: After finally getting the right pin jumpered to the test pin, I think I'm reading a code 33 on the Key on ignition off test. I had my son crank it this morning while I had one of the plug wires pulled to verify spark. The engine started although idling rough and CEL is still on.

Timing belt appears to be in good shape and wa changed approx 50K ago. Code 33 refers to EGR systemproblems, so i'm checking TPS voltage, vacuum lines, etc. Anything else i should look for?

Another update. Followed the EGR troubleshooting tips in my manual checking voltages, reseating connectors, etc. Restarted and she ildes normal with no CEL. Must have been something flakey electrically....time will tell if it's a permanent fix.

Sticking EGR valve maybe?
