I am throwing a P1443 (purge control valve) malfunction code which is lighting up my CEL which is a no-go for emissions here in GA.

My first try at a replacement valve (not from the dealer) actually has a round plug w/ three pins rather than the D-shaped factory plug with only two pins! Anyone encounter this problem?

My valve and "thermistor" soleoid are OEM. I can't pull the valve off the apparently solid vacuum line to the solenoid. ?? I've seen some posts which imply from the factory these two parts are one-- so I wonder if my inability to separate them is by-design. ??

Any advice? -scott

You didn't give a year for your Ranger but I'm guessing that it is a 95~97. P1443 is a common failure for those years and the culprit is usually the Purge Flow Sensor that is part of an assembly that mounts near the charcoal cannister by the DS headlight.

Sorry-- it is a '96. I have done the searching and found discussion describing how to deal with a 1443. Do you know if the valve and the solenoid can be replaced separately? They're putting up a good fight trying to take them apart and I don't want to break more than I have to. -scott
