I would like to eliminate the EEC components on my 1985 Ford Ranger XL 4X4 since half of them are missing and the rest no longer work. I have looked at two different options for replacing the stock TFI ignition. One would be a dual point distributor from Mallory. The other a "Duraspark Conversion". I'm not sure which would be the better way to go. If I did the "Duraspark Conversion" what would be the best year and model of car to get the distributor out of? I know that the stock "feedback carburetor" has to be replaced with a non emission controlled carburetor. Again, which year and model would be the best? I would appreciate any tips or suggestions.

i believe that any of the mid to late seventies mustang II's or pintos with the duraspark are a good candidate for the distributor and ignition box. these parts are actually pretty cheap at the parts stores, or on ebay. i would definitely shy away from the points setup just due to the initial setup and routine maintenance. there is a reason why the points distributors were phased out. as for the carb, i would go with a simple holley 350 cfm 2 bbl. i had one on mine for a long time and it performs well. i believe you can get a remanufactured one at the parts store for a pretty good price, or again try ebay. hope this helps.
