View Full Version : have an X-cal2 - usable?
onebluemcm Jan 30 2007, 08:04pm I have an X-Cal2 from a Ford SVT Focus I'm trying to sell - is this unit usable with a Ranger? I'm getting an 07 (had to order one.....) so I'm curious about the Xcal2 - can it be "erased" or manipulated by an SCT dealer to work on my upcoming Ranger?
I'm rather ignorant about the possibilities of ECM tuning on the Ranger - if my Xcal2 won't work, are there other options I should consider? It's a stick if that matters.
Thanks - appreciate it
K
disturbededge04 Jan 30 2007, 08:10pm It will work. Make sure you flash the X-Cal back to stock before getting rid of the Focus. If not it will have to be unlocked before a reflash. After that send it to a SCT tuner and get it set up for the Ranger and your done. I would recommend contacting BOSS 3.0 via PM. He does great datalog tunes.

he hit that one on the head:thumbsup:
onebluemcm Jan 30 2007, 09:00pm hey, cool - really helpful. Just to clarify, when you say flash it back to stock, you mean set it back like it was when I got it from the SCT dealer, right? I have the SCT computer software around somewhere - if not, I could down load it I suppose - is there a way to check if it is unlocked using the SCT software?
I tried a few tunes on my Focus and never was very happy - one thing lead to another, I kind of gave up and forgot about the tuner - until know. Just saying, I'm not 100% sure I know how the whole Xcal2 tuning process works. I had done a few data logs with it and my laptop, but even then, not sure I was doing it right. Anyway, I have played with the tuner and the SCT software, probably not proficient with it but I certainly can work my way through the system. So if would help to check the status of the tuner, let me know what to try.

When you plug the X-cal into the car where you go to program, just use the "return to stock". That is all. Then contact an SCT dealer, mail your X-cal to them and it's done.
As far as the Datalogs I have done with BOSS 3.0 they go like this.
I hook the truck up the X-cal with a laptop using the Livelink 3 software to moniter paramaters he included on a sheet. When I first got mine I was running lean and the 02's were off. After about 3 good datalogs he had it spot on.
onebluemcm Jan 30 2007, 09:22pm thanks man - I went ahead and sent Boss 3.0 a PM. I will make sure the Xcal2 is back to stock.
I tried data logging in my Focus - both with the laptop and just on the hand held unit alone. With the laptop, I got pretty friggin frustrated because it would only record for a short time - like never more that 90 seconds, usually between 30-45 sec. I never figured out what the problem was - that was a while ago now, maybe SCT has updated the software since then. Datalogging seems pretty interesting to me, so I was bummed when it didn't work before.
really appreciate it - glad the Xcal2 won't be a loss if I ever do sell my Focus.......I'll bet the 4.0L really benefits from some ECM recalibration. Should be interesting.
disturbededge04 Jan 30 2007, 09:26pm The Datalogging was one of the main reasons I bought mine. Good to know after you install more mods it can be tuned for it.
I think the software has been updated. I have not really had an issue with the Liveload 3.
I think the X-cal can be reset for 5 vehicles before a full reset. Got to like that.
onebluemcm Jan 30 2007, 09:29pm That is a good thing - now, only if you could use it on more than one vehicle at the same time..... That's not likely to ever change I bet....
disturbededge04 Jan 30 2007, 09:39pm Not unless you happen to own 2 vehicles with the same PCM code. lol
BOSS 3.0 Mar 01 2007, 05:30pm Did I get back to you? I don't see a PM...
Anywho, the device "VIN locks", so even if you had 2 vehicles with the same PCM code, you would need 2 tuners.
ZX10FAST May 11 2007, 06:18pm the 4.0 really benefits great from the x cal2 i just got mine from bama and its great and i really noticed the difference. I cant get datalogging working yet but i will figure it out. like the guys said return vehicle to stock then send it out.
