Hello,
I need help! I noticed one cold (Colorado) morning my brake pedal felt lower than usual. The stopping/braking power didn't seem to have changed, the pedal just didn't feel right. That afternoon the pedal somehow felt normal again. I thought it was just temperature related.
A few weeks after that, under normal braking condition I noticed my front wheels were locking too much! Then a few days later, another cold morning, my pedal was low again! That same morning a few blocks away the pedal went all the way down and I did not stop! Luckily I was only running about 20 mph approaching a stop sign and no cars in front!
I found out that the master cylinder went bad! I replaced the master this morning and when I finally tried to bleed the system, there was no pressure at the rear brakes at all! As I tried to track the problem, I eventually came accross the RABS hydraulic unit. I removed the inlet line from the master to tha RABS hydraulic unit and asked my wife to step on the brake and there the line did squirt out fluid. I put the inlet line back and remove the outlet line going to the rear wheel cylinders and asked my wife to step on the brakes again. This time, there was little or no fluid coming out from the RABS haydraulic unit! I started the engine, pump the brakes then press and held the brakes as hard as I can and yet, still nothing! The brake pedal, beleive it or not, feels "normal".
My question is, does the RABS hydraulic unit needs to powered to operate? Or fluid should be going in and out regardless? The ABS ligh is not on, the front brakes are ok!
Thanks for your help!
