Hey guys, I replaced the brakes on my 93 Ranger, everything is tight and where it should be, had the front end looked at, mechanic says everything looks good, but, when I go over bumps, I get a clunk noise from the front right, it seems to go away when I put the brakes on, yeah I know, replace the caliper pins, I have done that, and it still makes the noise, nobody seems to know or see what it could be. Any ideas, anybody? Its driving me and the mechanics crazy as to what it could be. Thanks guys, Tim

are you absolutely sure it is the front and not coming from underneath the middle somewhere ?

My 94 does the exact same thing, apply the brakes moderately to hard and it disappears. It's not ball joints, not cab mount (anymore) and it's not calipers/wheel bearings. I have come to conclude it's the radius arm bushings, there is a gap about 1/4" on each side of mine and the rubber looks pretty old.

Does your noise come front the front corners, but you can feel it under the seats kind of? Mine does, feels like something banging against the cab floor.

I had the bushings replaced over a year ago, had them looked at as well, and they are ok so say the mechanics, they did squeak quite bad before I had them replaced though. I'm gonna take it in again I guess, thanks for your replies guys. Tim

radius arm bushings. if you had them replaced about a year ago like i have. when they put them back together did they use new nuts or reuse the existing nuts. you HAVE to replace the nuts. they are kinda like head bolts you don't want to reuse them. look in a hayes manual, it will tell you there. on the top of the nut you will see indents on the top. they are a lock nut. they are about 4 bucks apiece at the dealer.

FINALLY got rid of the damn clunk and problems with that dang bushing. You were right, you DO have to replace the nut,one shop screwed it up,TWICE,telling me they replaced the nut, right,it kept coming loose. What a difference in steering and control on the highway, like new again. Thanks again.....Tim
