View Full Version : Might be Going from Lima to Duratech
There's an 01 2.3 duratech in town that i looked at yesterday. It's in pretty good shape, no scratches or anything but theres a ding on the top of the tailgate. It's an auto and has like 71,000 miles on it, those are the 2 down sides. They only want 3850 for it. I was wondering, is there a noticable difference in pep with the duratech engines? I'd be going from a 94 5spd lima to this 01 auto dura.
freddie Feb 25 2007, 10:48am ha i dont even have a duratech but i can honestly say yes there is. my classmate has an 05 duratech and i've been out with him in it before..those motors have nuts. you'll def notice a difference..and i think they should get a couple mpg better too. i've also been loookin at an 01 duratech lol:thumbsup:
sweet! i just may ask my parents if i can take out a loan through them and get it, pay them off over time

got a pic of it???
here's the pic of the 01 i've been lookin at..and as soon as i get my truck fixed from what happened i might http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o4/freddie_nhs_07/th_ranger2.jpg (http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o4/freddie_nhs_07/ranger2.jpg)http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o4/freddie_nhs_07/th_ranger1.jpg (http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o4/freddie_nhs_07/ranger1.jpg)
i'm jealous that that one is only 3850 what you're lookin at...i think this is a deal on the o1 for 6K,..even tho i'd probably try to talk them down to 5.5K. its weird..when i mentioned it to dad(not askin for money or anything at all) he actually was like "you need to start thinkin bout payin for college, not findin more things to spend money on" lol. ill already have an associates in engineering this june when i get my hs diploma, thanks to some new fulltime 2 year program for your jr and sr year of hs. i think i can handle those really small payments on that ranger..as soon as summer rolls around and i officially have that degree in hand..
nn2004 Feb 25 2007, 04:01pm It's a night and day difference. Just drove an older Lima after driving my Duratec and it just didn't feel right. Felt like a Geo Metro 3 cyl. Gas mileage is about the same from what I've seen. Major advantage though - no timing belt! It's got a chain (or 2, not sure).
focusstevezx3 Feb 25 2007, 04:35pm Ive got both a Lima And a Duratec (in my focus it counts!) and it is in unbelivable difference. DOHC 16 valve vs. SOHC 8 valve plus, no timing belt cause it's chain, no plug wires because its COP and there are a ton of power adders for the 2.3 Anyone ever thought of a COSWORTH RANGER:drool:
I have my ranger and have driven the shop's lima powered rnager a few times. Its a huge differance, the dtec is much smoother and pulls better up top.
sweet! i'm liking the sound of it being peppier. I'm gonna test drive it tomarrow if the dealer has their driver in.
Shoreice Feb 25 2007, 08:38pm I have owned both, they feel really different. The Lima makes it's power at a lower RPM so you don't have to rev it nearly as high to get anywhere, Mine would run all day at 1000 to 1500rpm and pull strong. 3.43 gears The Duratec makes NO power below 3000rpm but pulls well from there to the rev limiter. 3.73 gears.Cosworth motor makes power 6000rpm and up (and cost $9K) so 4.56 gears or taller. I do get way better mileage on the Duratec.Try to drive a truck with the same gears as yours, it is the best way to feel what the engine is really doing. Hope this helps, Kenny

So, which dealer has the truck you're interested in? I was out your way this afternoon...
BTW: You'll love the Duratec... especially one with a stick shift! :)
it was one in town, ABC Auto. There's also an awesome s-dime out there but meh, the 4.3 is too much of a gas hog for me =/ Oh well But yea, the dtech engine sounds like its all that i need really.

Careful, that's inaccurate info (slightly). The Ranger's 2.3 does not have COPs, it has plug wires still. Also, our 07 Focus with the 2.0 feels much faster than my truck, but my truck is geared lower (3.73), so it depends.
Peterdaniel Mar 12 2007, 08:59am The focus is also a waaaay lighter vehicle and of course as you said, geared differently.
