Due to a FWD .vs RWD configuration difference, many external parts will not interchange.

As far the engine goes (other then horsepower, which is slight) identical engines. But just like blueman said fwd v. Rwd external part wont interchange without a little persuasion.

So some hopped up focus cams would work? Also cant you use the MAF off that car then, so you can hook up a CAI?

What was that, Focus MAF?! Does a 04+ Focus have removable MAF?

Would this mean a 01+ K&N FIPK could then be used on an 04+ Ranger?

The only problem you will run into is I think the conectors are different, but you might be able to rewire it to work.
And yes the cams will work, they are one of my future upgrades.

You can do a CAI, but you need an adapter to use the guts of your existing MAF since it's molded into the airbox. Personally, I don't think there's a bunch to be gained by doing it, but you can do what you want with your own money. I'd rather spend the money elsewhere. I just kept the stock airbox/MAF assembly, removed the silencer, and used a drop-in K&N filter. If you want to replace the rubber inlet tube with a chrome or aluminum one, you certainly can without much trouble.

I did my complete CAI with out using the factory box.

Yeah, but you had to hack it up to do so - unless you're willing to commit to not going back without going to the junkyard to buy another one, it's not much of an option. People that just want a pure bolt-on solution will need to buy the MAF adapter, or adapt an earlier MAF to the newer wiring.

The internal parts are the same. the maf sensor IS removable in the focus. With my 2.0 duratec I lost .6 seconds in the 1/4 with an AEM intake, And 2.5" Exhaust. I have found that the duratec i-4's take bolt ons very well but if you get cams you will need a tune. I already tried the cams but could not afford the tune at the time so out and to ebay they went!

NO I still have all the factory parts ready to go back together for warenty work if need be. NEVER had to cut anything up, and its far from being hacked up. Just a litte imagination.

by the way focusstevezx3 you still have the cams?

Hey BlueMan, how is the K&N working for you? I am thinking about using one on my 2007. Did the K&N drop right in or require any mods? Getting any additional power and fuel economy?
BTW, what is the silencer?

So, what did you do to make it work then, but the aluminum adapter to make your MAF's guts work in a different enclosure? About the only other 04+ that I heard that had done a CAI basically cut off his stock air box to make it happen (something I would recommend against)

K&N is working fine for me - got about 37,000 on the truck (27,000 on the filter). The drop in is exactly as it sounds, no mods required - no real noticable difference that I could tell, but I don't have to keep buying and tossing out air filters anymore.

The noise silencer is a piece of plastic in your airbox - you'll see it if you take out the filter. It just channels the air in and is slightly restrictive on the top end (but not much).

Put a reducer and mounted it into the tube itself. Works the same way as factory.

not to hijack the thread but since your talking about air filters, my ac line runs right around my airbox and has gotten a little damage from people(the previous owner i assume) checking the filter. Anyone else had this prob. and if so how did you fix it?

Unless the line is broke that realy is not a problem. Whats getting damaged is the padding put around the hose to keep it from getting rubbed and eventually a hole. Best to fix it would be to get some more hose pading and just re wrap it.

the hose is actually scarred halfway through. I thought about rewrapping it but that doesn't fix the problem. I need a more permenant solution

new a/c line then, but are you sure its not the heat wrap thats being rubbed, because if it your actual a/c line then you have a bigger problem.

Yup, that AC hose is a PIA when you're trying to deal with the air filter. Mine is rubbed a little ragged, too; I'll take credit (or blame) for the frayed hose covering on mine.
Once it gets warmer outside, I'm going to try to get some plastic stuff to put over the sharp edge of the fender where it rubs on the hose.

Good luck with yours! :)
