I have a 96 with the 2.3l and the alternator and battery are brand new but the alternator is not charging at all, i was wondering if you knew where i should be getting power from for the alternator (there is a Big red wire, a 3 prong connector with a White wire with a black stirpe, a yellow wire with a white stripe, and a green wire with a brown stripe, and there is a connector with another white wire with a black stripe), and if you knew where i could find a fuse panel diagram for the one in the truck and the one under the hood, the factory book is missing with all that info. Thanks for any help man. Clayton

Just because parts are new doesn't mean they can't fail or be bad, so don't rule something out till you know it's a good part and working properly! Check your voltage when the truck is running - if it's not in the 13-14v range at the battery, you may not be charging as well as you should be! This is usually the fault of the alternator (or built-in voltage regulator).

Don't forget to check all your grounds too, as without a proper ground, electrical components can't work well.

That or the fusible link connecting the alt to the solenoid on the fender is blown.

Alright thanks for the help guys, i messed with it a little bit more and found that the black wire with the red line is not connected to anything, it says fusible link on it, it also has a round connector on the end that a bolt would go through, and there is a ground unhooked also. Do you know where that needs to be connected to, is it ground or power? This truck is bodydropped and some of the wiring has been moved as well, so it might not have been hooked back up after the work.

Yea, theres your problem. The wire with the stripe near the alternator go's to that red post on the alternator, and the other side with the fusable link go's to the big post on the solenoid on the fender (the post closest to the firewall)

Ok well about that, this truck is bagged and body dropped and the only solenoid is down by the radiator, i can get a picture in the morning but there are already wires attached to it. Does anyone have a pictures of what it is supposed to looks like?

So....the part closest to the alternator needs to attach to the red post on the alternator, the other side that has the fusable link needs to go where I circled in red...

Also, make sure the battery is showing 12+ volts. Some regulators will not kick on unless the battery is over 12 volts to prevent the alternator from overheating.
