My opinion is as long as the entry thread is open you can change it. I am not sure if others feel the same way. Its not as if this is for prizes its all in good fun.

Bloo, it's good to finally see a different pic of your truck. I don't ever remember seeing a thread made about it...maybe I just missed it. It's such a beautiful truck to have to stare at at a little 175x175 square all the time!

I dont want to sound like a douche. But I do think that editing should be as limited as possible. This is a snapshots challenge not a PS challenge.

NVR2LOW
Mar 07 2007, 06:43am
editing is part of making a good photo. i dont want to start an argument but every photo i put on the net has been edited to an extent, some very little, some quite a bit. editing and psing are two different things. photoshop is changing the photo, adding, deleting, modifying the subject. editing is adjusting the light and color in order to get the desired results. really its anything you can do in a darkroom, just for digital pics. i have put alot of time into learning how to edit photos to get the results i want and its not mine, or anyone esles fault that you havent. he did a very good job with the edit of that shot and i give him props for it.

on that note, if photoshop was no longer allowed to be used in this competition i know myself and probably a few others that are into photography would no longer associate with the competition.

i dont want to sound like im trying to give you a hard time, i just want to point out why we should be able to use it.

While minor editing makes perfect sense, heavy editing should not occur. Per the contest guidelines:

Other Stuff - Don't pinch from other people. Regular RPS rules apply. No heavily processed/photoshopped entries unless we say otherwise, this is a photo contest after all. Minor edits/adjustments are fine. Please don't break any laws or do anything stupid.

Now, what qualifies as heavy and what qualifies as minor?

I'd assume, editing to correct the color or a lighting problem would be light, but that's only my assumption.

NVR2LOW
Mar 07 2007, 08:06am
well, i take it as if it can be done in a dark room we should be able to do it. i dont think we should be adding anything, or taking anything out of the shot but ps'ing colors and lighting should be allowed. i consider what he did heavey because im pretty shure he didnt just tweak the color setting. in reality its probably not what you would consider heavey editing.

I totally agree with you. If it can be done in a dark room for sure it should be allowed. I actually don't think that picture crosses the line. I was just bringing up that somewhere there is a line. Obviously most of us adjust color and light on some pictures it makes sense. I wasn't saying any of these pics should not be allowed just suggesting that a line should be drawn somewhere.

NVR2LOW
Mar 07 2007, 12:06pm
i agree about the line, the problem is there is a big grey area where the line could be placed. there are alot of darkroom tricks to things that we do in photoshop. i think to make the rule more clear, anything with color and lighting is allowed. adding or removing objects in the pic should not be allowed.
