Spike-Hutto Mar 14 2007, 02:08pm Wow that's awesome. My truck doesn't have the capabilities but if it did I know I would pay a visit there. That is certainly a place that needs to be saved!
theRhino.73 Mar 14 2007, 02:21pm I'll donate a little. Don't have much. Don't leave near but would like to help.
PickupMan92 Mar 15 2007, 10:15am just curious as to why an airport needs 5500 acres? most only used half that.
NVRDONE Mar 15 2007, 10:48am Dont know, right now the owners are in deliberation(sp?) with the people who leased most of the land. As of right now its still open, they said by the end of next month the outcome will be publicized.

if it does close it will be a sad day for anyone with balls and a transfer case
emgriggs887 Jun 15 2007, 11:10pm I was up there with a friend of mine once, nice place, don't really think there is to much to worry about though, I know the guy that owns Gateway Aviation in Allentown, PA, he said the last he heard they are just going to do a complete overhaul of the airport that's already in Hazelton, I'll talk to him this weekend and try to get an update if there is one. Oh and PICKUPMAN92, while most smaller or Class E(General Aviation, non-towered) airports are only around 2000 - 2500 acres, the type of airport they want in Hazelton is a Class C(same class as LVI and SWBI) which can land Boeing 747's, and a Class E really can't handle anything larger than a small twin engine aircraft.
So a Class C has to have runways at least 8,500 - 10,000 feet in length, which require alot of acreage. OK so take 1,000,000 sq. ft which is the approx parameters of a 10,000 foot runway divided by 42,780 sq. ft(1 acre) and you need 23 1/2 acres just to build one runway, typically there are at least 2 or three runways, and then you have parking, maintenance roads, taxiways, spillage areas and the terminals, that's why they need 5,500 acres to put up this large of an airport.
emgriggs887 Jun 18 2007, 09:27am UPDATE: yeah according to Brad, there is a high liklehood that this is going to happen, because even though there is no immediate need for this large of an airport in Hazleton, the prediction is that in 2 - 4 years, Hazleton and surrounding areas will have almost as large of a metro area as Allentown and Scranton, remember this is information I am getting from a third party, though most of his info has been legitimate in the past I do not guaruntee it is this time, keep checking this thread for more updates.
NVRDONE Jun 18 2007, 10:52am Thanks for the update man, Me and my boy were actually going to take a ride up there just to see whats going on.
They've already started cutting trails at their supposed new location. I was talking to someone last week who was helping them do it. I really want to sign up for one of their trail rides... maybe in August.
emgriggs887 Jun 18 2007, 12:52pm I'm going to take a ride up that way tomorrow, since it's only like 15 minutes from my house
emgriggs887 Jun 18 2007, 08:09pm we should have a big get together up there before they close it down
To tell you the truth, I'm not positive where they're running now. I don't know if they've moved everything over to the as of yet incomplete new park, or if they're still running at hte old one for the time being. But yea, I'd be up for a group ride sometime. We'd have to stick to the level 1 and 2 trails to attract the most people (including myself !)
emgriggs887 Jun 19 2007, 08:58am yeah man, I don't know if they've moved everything yet either, and yeah my truck is still stock, so it'd be level 1 for me all day long.
emgriggs887 Jul 01 2007, 12:20pm Update: I was just up there yesterday, and they are not at the old location, or at least they do not appear to be.
NVRDONE Jul 01 2007, 12:33pm Paragon Adventure Park presents Paragon Proving Grounds. This is a new location for dealership outings, large events and specialized group rides. This new area is geared toward SUV/4x4 vehicles. Sorry, no ATV/dirt bikes at this time. We plan to acquire more land in the near future for ATV/dirt bikes.
This new location has a beautiful setting. It is close to the Hazleton hotels and right next door to the Red Ridge Lake Campground.
This location will be guided to all groups as the trails are not easy to follow. The cost of the guide is included in your admission price.
We are taking reservations for groups/events. These reservations are on a first come first serve basis and are already being booked. If you are interested in a date, please contact us at reservations@paragonap.com.
Please don’t misunderstand; this is not a replacement to our Oak Ridge Road location. The terrain and layout are very different. You are not riding around a campground all day. However, there is not a lot of “crazy” stuff. The trails range from level 1 to level 5. We are not gearing this toward the buggies and rock crawlers. This is a true trail riding area.
If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail reservations@paragonap.com.
We thank you all for your support and for sticking with us through this trying time.

emgriggs887 Jul 01 2007, 12:36pm that's the way I take it, I liked riding the old site on an ATV to, but I'm sure that they'll have them again in the future
