if you have a key with a thick black top and a little light in your dash that blinks and says 'theft', then you do.

Your 2001 definitely has PATS.

That's partial.:) The 2005 Ranger doesn't have pats and still has a "dumb" blinking light. It does have a thin key.

mmm. really? is there still a chip in the key?No chip in 2005 because 2005 doesn't have PATS.

The 2005 Ranger doesn't have pats and still has a "dumb" blinking light.OK, but doesn't the '05 have a non-PATS antitheft system, maybe similar to what my '98 has? In which case the blinking light does serve a function.

2005 ranger has a securilock system. it's similar to pats.
you would require a interface to remote start.
We sell DIE so the part numbers you would need from them would be 1100f, 556uw, 556sw. Any of those will work.
If you need any other help pm me

2005 ranger has a securilock system. Not true. SecuriLock was thrifted from the Ranger line for 2005, so it was not available on any Ranger made during that model year.

In 2006, Securilock/PATS returned on V6 Rangers only. For 2007, it is once again standard on every Ranger, regardless of engine size.

I wanted to add this for reference.I have a 2001 Ranger XLT automatic 2.5L.It's a standard cab short bed.I have NO PATS and I have a big black key. There is no red blinking light and no security light in the gauges. My truck as of this writing is completely stock.I can hot wire this thing in 2 seconds flat. The G/F got a flat tire on the highway and when I went to get it she left the keys behind. And no I will not tell you how to do it.

Yes, that's normal.

PATS = Passive Anti Theft System - has nothing to do w/ door locks.

On Rangers w/ power locks, the keyfob is nothing more than a convenience feature that sends an RF signal to the RAP/CSM/Smart module to lock/unlock the doors and activate the horn/lights in a panic situation. ie: it "arms" nothing on Rangers that have not been modified.

Later in the year, Ford changed over to the 2.3L DOHC engine in the Ranger.

2000 Ranger 2.5L 4-cylinder trucks did not have PATS and that is why your 2001 2.5L doesn't either.

But Google will  its really not that hard to do, just don't forget to unlock the steering wheel.
