Hello, Im looking to buy a new ranger xl with air only. This will be used by a business and will see 50K per year miles put on it. Are there any known issues with these trucks that I need to know about? It will be a 5 speed as well.
We need this truck to go 200K miles if possible and it will be driven by adults and maintained. It will have to haul some max loads at times. So, this truck will get used but not abused. It may do some light towing as well.
Also, can anyone give me some kind of idea on what the price should be. We decided on the ranger because of good gas mileage and what appears to be good reliability. Your imput is appreciated.

before i bought my 07 fx4 off road ranger i was looking at getting a xl or xlt 2.3 5speed. price i got for a xl 2.3 5speed was around $11.300 but i know i could do better. they seem pretty good for what i read. my 88 mazda pickup has a 2.2 4 banger and i load that baby up full and have power to spare. 5 speed manual helps witrh the gearing for up hills etc.keep it well mantained and it should go 200,000 plus.

I have a 02 XLT w/the 2.3L and the automatic. And it has never had a major problem(pushng 60K).The shop I work at we service a fleet of company Rangers. All of which have better than 150K miles with very few problems. And they do abuse them pretty hard.
As far as hauling and towing.I've pulled my 14 ft. trailer loaded with another ranger on it with no trouble.I would advise getting a trailer hitch and the roadmaster active suspension system.

I think you'll do okay with a strippo Ranger... the engine is good, the truck is reliable as tomorrow's sunrise, and has long since had all the "wrinkles" ironed out of it. Our local NAPA car parts store has a fleet of about 5 or 6 Rangers, and they told me they're happy with them.
But don't expect to haul a few tons in the bed; it's rated to haul about 1300 pounds, but I know that it'll haul more than that. Trailering with a manual transmission should be limited to pretty light stuff; if you plan to do much trailer-dragging, I'd pop for the automatic transmission, unless you enjoy replacing clutches. The standard seat in an XL regular cab is vinyl, which you might want to upgrade to cloth for your driver's comfort.
You ought to be able to buy one for less than 12 grand out the door.

You paid $10,000 for a 5 (going on 6) year old 2.3l XLT with 55,000 miles on it??? I've hear of plenty of people getting brand new ones for not much more than that.

Credit rating has little to do with selling price, only the loan interest rate.
An 07 XLT Regular cab should cost in the upper 13s plus Tax/Title, and registration.

Yup, sounds right. Bought my first financed car for 6k, but came to 8k after the financing alone.

Got mine from a used car dealer in Northern Cali for 8,4k, after taxes and registration in Cali, 9,3k. It was previously a company truck, got it with 19k, and its air-only also. It still smelled like a new ranger too, and it was super clean.
The other choice was a 2003 Ranger 2.3L XLT(maybe) w/ 13k w. air conditioning for the same price, but it was a 70 mile drive vs. 5. But, now a regret not getting a/c because its like $900 option.
