So I have a 94 2.3L 5spd and my tranny has been leaking fluid for a while. I keep topping it up since its a slow leak, but I want to fix this for piece of mind and proper function. Haven't pin pointed the exact location, but it appears to be around the output shaft, however it seems like it may also be coming from around the seam of the 2 halves bolted together.
I have both the seals and gaskets required, but was quoted 1 hr labor from 1 place, and 3 from another. But I think I could do it myself as long as no special tools are needed. Anybody else got experience with this.
Thanks

if you are mechanically inclined, you can do it yourself. it's not a PITA, just tedious getting to all the bolts and disconnecting some of the wires.
once you take it out, then you'll see what the problem is. This may or may not be a good idea, because it may be more than you can handle to fix also. if a shop is only going to charge you only an hour of labor (about $85 right?) you might be better off letting them do it.
If it's something as simple as replacing a gasket or two go ahead and go for it. I let my most trusted shop fix my clutch / tranny and now the owner retired so his shop is some other shop now... my 5th gear is jittery and can't accelorate well in it and my clutch doesn't engage until over 3/4 to the floor

I'm don't have the pull the tranny, I can do everything with it still in the truck. 1 hour of labor is $45 to $55 Cdn funds @ the shops I trust.

oh dude, just do it yourself then lol. make sure you mark the drive shaft where it's bolted onto the rearend, you don't want vibrations later.
