Hey everyone, I am thinking about buying a 1994 2.3L Ranger, 2WD, 100,000 miles. It has a nice fiberglass cap and a rack, and no body rust, but a little on the chrome fender. $1,500.00 with all maintenance records, runs really good. Any things I should check out on it before I buy it, besides the normal stuff? Is this a fair price? Thanks alot.

Those are real reliable little trucks. I bought mine new in 95 when I graduated from college and only recently traded it in on a Ram. Don't expect much in the way of performance, and wait until there's no one coming to attempt a left turn across traffic. Good luck with your truck.

make sure that the tranny shifts good if it is a 5 spd but that also works in a auto i believe.

1500.00 is a steal, I paid 3600.00 for my 93, but it's a 4 wheel drive and in a Missouri winter you need it. Mine only had 93,000 on it, if it's a 5 spd, check the shifting, especially the reverse, mine seems difficult at times to shift into it. Valve cover gaskets seems to be of low quality, not that it's a big deal, just look for lots of oil, a good sign they are hiding oil leaks is the motor will be power washed, or steam cleaned. But being realistic, at 1500.00 I really doubt you would have much to complain about, if you had to throw a couple hundred in it.

Thanks alot guys, this is my dad's truck and as far as I can see the engine is in tip top shape, no valve cover leaks, vacuum hoses in good condition, etc. The underbody is a little rusty but that can't be avoided up here. I have driven a little bit and it seems to work fine. One thing I know that has happened is it was used to haul way more firewood than it can handle, and my dad smoked the clutch backing it up a hill, but it shifts fine.

yeah make sure the brakes work, and arent worn down all the way, look at the radiator make sure there are no leaks, look around the tires, make sure they are in good shape, check parking brake, blinkers and lights. A lot of these simple things I had to fix when I got mine. If any of these things fail, its just going to cause you weightlessness in your wallet to fix. And if you dont know and dont fix them.... well good luck.
