Didn't see a real detailed writeup for this anywhere.. so i thought i'd help contribute...

**************

Unhook the battery, let it sit for about 15 minutes or so...

On the side of the steering wheel, there are two covers.. they just pop right off.. one on each side.. underneath is a single bolt on each one... unscrew those...

... and the airbag will jsut come loose for you... disconnect the brown connector carefully and set the airbag aside...

This is what it looks like underneath... There are 4 philips screws.. 2 on each side... (circled in yellow) ...holding in the buttons.. you can see how the cables flow over the top of the steering area from one side to the other.. there are also two connectors at the top (circled in yellow)... then the main connector connects right near the airbag plug (circled in yellow)...

Marvel at the beauty of your new replacement parts... Got mine on ebay for about $25 shipped brand new...

Remove the old one.. i ripped some of the wiring but wasn't concerned because i had the new one with all the wiring... now take a T-30 Torx bit and remove the 2 brackets on each side... this pic shows the right one removed... i removed both for ease of use.. these are your horn trigger things... you can see how under the right one the cables loop back around and there is a 'canal' to pass the cable under the horn bracket to plug into the connector...

to make the wiring go all the way around and tuck underneath like it was to begin with, you'll want to pull back the plastic back of the steering wheel to give a little gap to push the wires in.. you can see it in two ways in the next 2 pics...

reconnect everything.. connect the main piece to the center, screw the 4 philips screws back in to hold the 2 sides in place, then put the horn brackets back in, make sure you get the ground piece on the top left, and the two pinkish connectors at the top... and make sure the wires don't get in the way of your horn bracket holes where the airbag attaches...

put the screws back in the 2 sides, snap back on the covers, and there we are... sit back and admire your work :)

Sounds more like a tech article submission, so I moved it out of the 4-banger area.

yes, on the left side, teh black covering had peeled off, and on the right side, they no longer lit up...

all in all it cost me $25 shipped for everything needed to do the job.. plus a few bucks for some beer i sipped on during the install ;)

thanks for the how-to! i was somewhat flustered as to getting those dang wires behind it all, lol. i never thought of sliding it back how you showed, thanks man . the only things different with my install is i only had to remove the right side horn thing and also my ground wire on the stock setup was on the on/off side, but the new one was on the right side. doesnt really matter since it works the same, just thought it was odd ;)

absolutely! they're cheap, keep my fingers less greasy (some break), and less crap under my fingernails!

hey, if i help ONE person have an easier install, it was worth the effort of taking the pics and making the threads... DIY is the best thing in the world... i have respect for mechanics, but i'd rather not pay them if i don't have to ;)

Any suggestins? Any other thread or link that'll help me out?
