Guys/Gals-
We should really make plans to get a meet going for Maryland. For as long as I've been a member on here (since 2001) Maryland has always talked of having a meet but to my knowledge nothing ever transpired. So, let me hear your suggestions and everything. I would be willing to set something up if a group of people were serious about getting together.

I just spent a few minutes looking around the forums and here's a list of people I just happened to notice were from MarylandIf you know of any others, please mention them so I can add them to the list. I've included what counties they live in if known.

I think it would be a great idea, the only weekends I already have plans for are the weekend before April 30th (anniversary), the first weekend in June (Carlisle all Ford Nats), and the first weekend in August (Carlisle all truck Nats)... The only thing is depending upon the location....

Yeah, we need to make it a rather central location and schedule it so as many people as possible can make it. By the way, I was born and raised in Hagerstown. My family all live in the Maugansville and Cearfoss area.

I work at a bar called Dick's Halfway Inn in Baltimore. If you'd like, we could set up a private party there. Just my 2 cents.

Apr 20 2007, 06:08pm
If it involves grilling and beer and was located anywhere from just on the eastern shore side of the bay bridge to Hagerstown, I'd do my best to be there. If a private party is setup at a bar, would we be able to see each others trucks? :chug:

I'd love to hook up with everyone.

Right at the moment .... i dont trust driving this thing to far so depending on location .... count me in.

Im not far from Dicks Halfway Inn and since some are on the eastern shore and some in western MD .... Baltimore, Anne Arundal or Harford County seems like a pretty neutral zone. Not sure i want to hang in a bar though for a get together. Maybe a cookout somewhere where we could do a lil mild offroading too? But i have no clue if theres any decent places to ride around here. Im still a 4x4 newb but dieing to do a lil offroading soon.

im in baltimore. anywhere to me is good. just let me know. and when

dakota772
Apr 20 2007, 08:52pm
I will show up anywhere. The only weekend that is not good for me is May 12th because I am going down to Raleigh for the NC meet. Keep in mind that Raliegh is about 300 miles from my house, so anywhere in Maryland is fine with me.

I don't mind meeting at a bar, as long as we can use the parking lot to look at each other's trucks. We really need a large open parking lot that doesn't catch a lot of attention.....burnouts!!

Baltimore area is good. Lots of places to chill and hang out.

there goes my idea of the state park by anapolis (spl). right by the bay bridge on the shore of the bay.

Apr 21 2007, 12:10am
Sandy Point state park would be a nice place but i think somewhere more northeast would be better, baltimore is pretty central but like Dakota772 said im down with anywhere in the state of Maryland lol. I would love to meet up and put faces with the avatars and name on this forum...but yeah definitely would want a big open parking lot like a state park or somewhere to have it....even if it was at a strip mall or something like that just something where could meet up, grub, and conversate about trucks.

my two cents...but yes count me in definitely

whoa, now this will be my first post in like a really super long time. but yes, i do agree with a meet. it does sound good in my book. im pretty much good for whenever, if i get the ranger back up and running, its been parked and torn apart since sept 2005 lol. i can explain that one, due to skull fractures/brain trauma and memory loss. so if the meet is recent, then ill be showing up in my sport trac. um the only dates, i would say wouldnt be good for me, well one would be may 12, b/c of dc 101 chili cook off. um, another would be june 2,3 b/c of the ocean city truck show and the 9,10 b/c of the annual car show for which i will be attending. but really any other time will be good. if its a far distance than the ranger will be towed, only for the reason it has more than 260,000 miles on it. i would agree b-more wouldnt be a bad drive, or even say annapolis or glen burnie for that matter. :blahblah: um a bar sounds good too haha, just got back from the club, eating some sheetz.

UM, sorry, but I really can't/won't do a bar... state park sounds great...

If it's the April issue showing the entire passenger side missing from a purple and grey Ranger then yeah that was me. LOL.

This is cool. We definitely need to get something going on this meet. I'm tired of seeing pics posted of all these other states doing something. It's time us MD'ers get together. The state park idea sounds good to me. I'm making notes on my calendar of weekends when people have other things going on and looking at various car show dates and stuff. Keep the input coming!

Iam down for whatever. A park would be sweet. Honestly I think Sandy point is a great option, because its big and open. Plus its a nice backdrop for a group photo.

dakota772
Apr 21 2007, 02:49pm
Here are some of my ideas:
Hagerstown Outlets - large parking area, but parking lot may fill up quickly (any large mall or high school would work)
Wal-Mart/Home Depot (any city) - usually have large parking lots that are rarely full
Any abandoned buildings with available parking lots - there are a couple here in Germantown, but cops patrol them routinely
What about meeting at someone's house? Does anyone have a large driveway? We could BBQ, work and each others' trucks, etc.

We need to get this ball rolling. With this nice weather around the corner, every weekend I want to be either working on my truck, meeting fellow RPS members, or attending car shows.

I was just looking at the Md State Parks info on the DNR's website. Sandy Point would make for a nice photo op with the trucks and has picnic shelters available. However, the cheapest shelter rental is $280 and has a capacity of 140 people. I don't think we'll need anything that big or that expensive but what do you all think? Anyone know anything about the Patapsco Valley State Park?

dakota772
Apr 21 2007, 05:22pm
I have been to Sandy Point. Honestly it isn't very nice. It seems to always be busy and dirty. Just my opinion though, like I said earlier, I am up for anything.

Here's the page from the DNR's website showing what is available in the various parks and the shelter fees and everything. http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/oc.html

Here are the two that I thought would be good as far as prices and amenitites go:
Patapsco Valley SP (http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/central/patapscovalley.html) or Seneca Creek SP (http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/central/seneca.html)

dakota772
Apr 21 2007, 09:35pm
Seneca Creek State Park is only a few miles from my house, but I vote for Patapsco because part of the fun of a meet is the drive to the location. Either way, both look good on-line. Has anyone been to either park?

1mean02hd
Apr 22 2007, 08:53am
Hammerman Area of Gunpowder Falls State Park would be ideal- LARGE parking lots, pavilions, fields, river, beach, the whole nine yards. My brother works there so MAYBE I could get him to talk to his boss and see what's they say.

Another option- car show meet. My buddy's shop (Speed FX) is throwing a car show in July. It will be at either Circuit City or Toys R Us on the corner of Rossville Blvd. and Pulaski Hwy. (Rt. 40 East). I'll get all the details when they're available, but as of right now, it seems that it's going to be a show that runs into the night (for the light show and all that). DJ Master Mixologist GQ will be the MC and also will feature a few live local bands (probably Seneca Uprising and Still Unbroken). Like I said, this isn't set in stone yet but more than likely will be in the next week.

dakota772
Apr 22 2007, 01:41pm
I was also thinking about using an existing car show as a meet idea. I really like the idea of Gunpowder Falls with large parking lots and great scenery. What does everyone else think?

I guess Gunpowder Falls it is. Now that we have the location, when do we want to do this? I'm getting ready to tear the truck apart to install the lowering kit, Boyd rims, and some other stuff I have sitting around so late May or June would work best for me.

Ok so I just got to this thread. I'll be in DATE pending. Is this just a meet, or a wheeling trip also. Im guessing a meet because of the dropped trucks and all? Thats fine. Theres three sections to the state park. so we should get which one to go to first.........?

OK .... I was wrong about it being 2 different names ....... Its actually all called Gunpowder Falls State Park ....... but there is actually 4 different areas of the park and each area is pretty far from each other.

The park spans through baltimore Co & Harford Co and the NCR trails even run up to the pennsylvania line.

The link posted above doesnt show the Hammerman Area which is the largest part of the park and is located in Chase, MD.

Here is a link to the DNR pages.

Here's a map of the Hammerman Area. (http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/central/hammermanarea.html)

fletch12518 - This will just be a meet and greet type gathering. Just to hang out and put a face to the name and truck we're used to on here. Not all of us have 4x4 or offroad worthy vehicles. What dates would be good for you? It'd be nice to include as many people as possible.

dakota772
Apr 23 2007, 04:27pm
Has anyone been to this park before? If so, which section do you think would be the best for few trucks to hang out? I have never been, but it sounds like a good meeting place.

As for the date, what about May 26 or June 2?

And of course we can use this opportunity to buy/sell/trade some of Ranger equipment.

June 9-10 is the Ocean City Truck Show. (http://www.occarshow.com) Just some of the things I have on my calendar.

Wow- werd to the Chase area. If I get all smooshed at least I won't have far to crawl home...

Getting back to the Hammerman Area- There's a HUGE lot over by the beach which is pretty neat because the drive aisle is down the middle and the lot itself is a big U shape. Also, plenty of grassy knolls and grills and such there. For pics, I usually take the whips down the boat ramp area. I've got some decent shots there. Take a look at my myspace page to see. I guess we'd better decide on a date soon because once May hits, it starts to get pretty busy there on the weekends. But, I think it'd be neat for the public to show up and see all the Rangers parked there (except for mine- it's not running yet :(, might be a trailer queen that day).

1mean02hd - those pics are nice on your myspace page. I'm sure we won't get too upset with you if you just bring the Harley F-150 by the way. Hopefully we can get regular meets going which will allow you time to get the Ranger up and running.

How about May 19 for the meet at the park, then we will probably see each other again at Carlise and Ocean City. Purpetrator - I know that doesn't give you much time to get your work done for your truck, but I think we should still meet up sooner rather than later.

CAGE RATTLER

All of the lots and picnic areas are very large there so any of them should work for our needs.

I havent been there in several years but used to hang there on weekends all the time when i was younger. Last few times i was there i didnt care for the type of people that hung there but we are going to have our own crowd with us anyway so it should be a good location for a 1st meet & greet.

May 19th works for me. I'll just have to make the time and find a place to get this lowering kit installed, get the rims on, get my free billet mirror on, wait for my other stuff to be shipped and get it installed, sew up my seat covers and give the truck a good bath. Let's see that gives me 25 days...:mind-blow

The shelters are $200 a day and if i counted correctly there has only been 13 people reply to this thread so unless we could get everyone to put some money up in advance ......... it probably isnt worth the money to get a shelter. They hold 200 people!

There are alot of lots there and they are all very large lots and the picnic areas arent far from the lots at all. Not sure if there is any areas we could pull off the lots in the grass to maybe park near some trees for shade or not.

Im gonna take a ride down there one day this week to check it out and maybe ask some questions about reserving an area.

I have one of those quick pop up 10x10 canopys i could bring and if any others have some we can setup our own area to give us some shade or in case of rain. I can also bring my propane grill to throw some burgers and dogs or whatever on. I can bring some horseshoes to setup too if its allowed or if theres pits all ready there. I'll check that out when i go down there this week.

I think we should invite all surrounding states and any other truck clubs or sites that we know. This way we can have a lot of mini-truck/off-road enthusiasts. I think we should settle on May 19 and hope that Pineapple can attend. If we pick any other date we will run into show season and holidays. I don't think we will need to rent a shelter, we should be able to take over a parking lot and a picnic area ourselves. Grilling some hot dogs and burgers sounds good!

Took a ride down to the park yesterday to check things out. Unfortunately no one was at the gate for me to ask any questions.

Looks to me the best areas would be anywhere in the back along the waters edge. best view anyway ....... lol. And there is plenty of areas away from the water if we want to stay away from it so you dont have to worry about the kids. I think the far end of the chestnut lot or any of the beach area lots would probably be best. Map of the park area (http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/central/hammermanarea.html)

They are doing some construction on the buildings at the beach and kayak rental area but even those lots wouldnt be to bad. I dont think the beach and boat rentals even open till memorial day anyway (or is it labor day comes 1st? .... lol.)

Saw a few groundhogs & geese in the park area but no deer. We did however see about 20 deer along the roads when heading farther down towards the archery range and dundee creek marina. There is a big field to the right, right before you turn into the park area and there is always deer out there when it gets close to dusk. We saw about 12 out there as we were leaving.

There is grills all over the picnic areas so i dont know if they will allow propane grills in there or not but i got a phone number that i will call to check. Personally i hate dealing with charcoal ..... lol. But if thats your thing ..... then bring a bag of coals and lighter fluid and maybe some tin foil and your all set to cook.

By the way .... the mosquitoes are out already so bring your repellant. We didnt get bit but we also wasnt there that long either and there was a nice breeze blowing off the water.

In case anyone wondered.........

Theres hiking trails there and plenty of room for bike riding. (not sure if they have specific bike trails or not)
They have a boat ramp if you want to bring your boats, canoes, kyaks or wind sufers.
I didnt notice any horshoe pits setup (but actually forgot to even look very hard) but i will bring my poles and shoes to setup our own if anyone wants to play.
2 baseball diamonds (not in the best of shape .... mainly a small backstop) if anyone wants to get up a baseball or softball game.
Plenty of playgrounds for the kids.

Thats about all i can think of right now so if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Cool deal. Thanks for checking that stuff out.

I just saw somewhere that dogs aren't allowed in that section of the park. That's a bummer because I was thinking of bringing mine so I don't have to find a doggy-sitter.

I can bring some mosquito repellent just in case anyone forgets to. Afterall, killing mosquitoes is what I do for a living. LOL!

lol im trying to promote the business anyway i can....over the internet or in person doesnt matter to me....

someone backed into me or something while i was at the mall the other night...so now my headlight, clear corner, bumper, fender, and the piece under the passenger side headlight(part of the core support) all needs to be fixed so hopefully my truck will be in tip top shape for the meet im going to hopefully get off for that day...just have to ask the boss. he hasnt been in a good mood lately so i have not yet asked..but i will.....

OK, well it appears most everyone wants to push the meet back. Several people have dropped out as far as this coming Saturday goes. Here's just an idea: What's everyone doing for the 4th of July? Anyone interested in having a cookout and then maybe hitting up some fireworks somewhere?

yeah, i'd agree with a date push back. its been a minute since i've been on here. plus, the ranger isn't up and drive able yet. but, it will be down in Ocean City in june, don't know if i'm showing for it, but i will be down for the show. i got vacation time to use, so i'll be in OC june 9-16.

something i thought was kinda wild from when the date was decided for the ranger meet.. well there is another meet going on for the sport trac the same day but in upstate NY. i'm certainly not up for the drive to NY though in the ST.

4th of July sounds cool to me. Same location? Where are some good fireworks shows in Maryland?

Purp...Keep me in mind for a get together. Don't have the ranger anymore but I still bleed blue. Here's an idea for July.... I'm the track announcer for the short track races and demolition derby at Arcadia Vol. Fire Co. in Balt. Co. and they have their July event on the 14th. There should be fireworks and there is PLENTY of room(70 acres)for tailgating and cooking out. Maybe we could find the old official RPS grill! I could probably work it out with the folks there to get anybody from RPS in a little early so we could all be parked together. We would probably have to arrive around noon but that would leave plenty of time to hang out before racing starts at 4:00. It's a ton of fun and I think it would be a great place to have a mini truck show. Also being the announcer you never know I might make a big old hey thanks for coming announcement letting everybody know we are there. Just an idea. Let me know. The races are the second Saturday of every month through the summer in case anybody is looking for something to do on a Saturday night. June 9th 98 Rock will have people driving in a derby of their own so it's gonna be a good night that night too. See Ya everybody and I'MMMM BAAAACK!

Wow! No wonder it got so cold! He's back! (j/k!)

That sounds like an awesome plan. Especially since I just looked at the calendar and the 4th of July is on a stupid Wednesday!!! Trucks, races, food and fireworks! Sounds like a plan to me! What about everyone else!?!

All right, I know it's been a LLLLLOOONNNNGGGGG time and I've not driven a blue oval for awhile now but I missed everybody and just couldn't stay away any longer. Rob & Rhonda, glad to see you're still here. I like the fact that even though I was gone for so long I'm still a part of the Ranger/RPS family. No matter what, I will always bleed blue forever. I don't know when but another Ranger will sit in my garage someday, that's a promise. Now back to our get together. The next event is June 9th at Arcadia. If I can get some kind of number of people interested I can talk to the powers that be at Arcadia and we might be able to get in a little early to show off RPS a little bit. I have a 10 x 10 tent to use if we need it. The same one I've brought to carlisle several times. All that said it might be best to meet somewhere outside the event and all go in together. There is a 7-11 right up the road and they have a big parking lot to meet and get everybody in. I'll start to keep track of everybody intersted and here's a little incentive.... I now work for MD SHA and it just so happens that we are having a discount night on 9th...so if anybody is willing to put their money up front I can get a two dollar discount off adult tickets. The big catch is I need the money by June 1 to get the discount. I will have the tickets for everybody prior to going in. Anybody interested who wants more info. can call my cell. 443-277-9474. Thanks for not forgetting about me and I hope too see everybody soon. No fireworks in June so let me know what everybody wants to do.
