ok so I just bought my truck today:wiggle: :naughty: lol and am absolutly loving it btw. But anyways the owner said the CEL has been on for about 2 years and he's tried everything all the sensors, threw new spark plugs in, everything he says. And the light jus dont want to go off but the truck still runs great. (why he didnt just get the code read and see exaclty what the engine doesnt like, is beyond me lol)

but anyways being a new happy owner I instantly went out and bought all the little things that make you truck yours. Got the yellow liscense plate cover got some air freshners and some gum to keep in there too. Heck i even picked up some axe body spray for those diar need times after work lol. and also got all my little stuff to get my deck in the ford. the adapters and all that shiat. So i go home install it right away, unplug the batt of course so im not frying nothing and get it all up and running and after i plugged the batt back in the CEL didnt come back on i was so suprised and happy lol. It was great. Anyways i just thought i'd share that with yall btw heres a pic of my truck http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x103/96_Splash/SSPX0011.jpg

...and after i plugged the batt back in the CEL didnt come back on i was so suprised and happy lolI hate to burst your bubble but disconnecting the battery reset the PCM and cleared its memory, including any trouble codes. If it has remained on for 2 years, it is a near certainty that the CEL will return. When it does, you can get the code pulled for free at many AutoZones or similar.

Nice looking truck.

Normally, I agree, but the previous owner may have replaced so much stuff by tossing money at stupid guesses, that (s)he possibly happened to catch the offending part by luck...

oh its yellow lol you aint missing my truck! but good call rwenzing it did pop back on about an hour after i reconnected the battery:sad2: but its all good still runs great and ill def check out a parts place to get the code read.

BTW i know most people reccommend autozone as its free to get the code read but im up here in Canada and im pretty sure we dont have any autozones. Any fellow canadains wanna reccommend a place that does it for free. In london here i know we have a parts source and all the can. tire wallmart sh!t but im sure they wont do it for free but mayb the part source might:S what you guys think

ya.. and if he never reset the computer after replacing the part, the light would have stayed on

Not true.

If the malfunction is not detected again for 3 consecutive drive cycles after the CEL is illuminated, the PCM turns the CEL off. If it is not detected again in 40 consecutive drive cycles after the CEL goes out, the Diagnostic Trouble Code is erased from the PCM's memory.

Just curious '96 splash if you ever found out what was causing the CEL situation.
