I recently was doing a tune up on my 92 Ranger with a 3.0. My buddy snapped a bolt in the distributor to start with but we got that figured out and got it all back together and it won't start. I checked for spark on the coil wire and there was nothing, so I bought a ignition coil and still nothing...i'm just sitting here scratching my head and looking for help... thanks guys. Also I"m looking for a good running 2.9 for my other ranger. Prefer in Wisconsin...

HELP I am not a mechanic but I can do a little bit here and there but I"m stumped. I"m not sure how to check if there is power from the battery to the coil. Any help?

The TFI (Thick Film Ignition) Module used on the 92 3.0 is the most suspect part in the ignition system - it has a reputation for failing without warning. I don't know much about the TFI but here is some troubleshooting info that may help:

It is bolted to the distributor. This is what it looks like...

I know you are not a mechanic, but if you are going to tinker with your vehicle, get a repair manual. Very helpful, read it in your spare time.

I have a repair manual but my dad lost it lol. I just haven't gotten a new one. I'm not getting spark to the coil...which is before the distributor so how would the tfi be my problem right now? No spark to the coil means no spark to the distributor whether the tfi is bad or not... It's something from the battery to the coil...
