i have a 1987 ranger that the vin # says has a 2.0,but lmc when you look up a fuel pump for an 87 2.0 it says it uses a manual pump.the motor in my truck doesnt have manual pump nor does it have the plate you can take off to use one.it does have the 2 brl that was on the 87 2.0,i am starting to think that someone has put a 2.3 in it and just used the intake and stuff from the 2.0.is there any way of telling the difference between a 2.0 or 2.3?short of tearing the motor down?im getting ready to rebuild a motor for it was gonna get a 2.3 to build up but if it allready has the 2.3 i will just build the one in it.if i can find out for sure

2.0's and 2.3's look the same externally, but the head is slightly different - they only have 3 'cam towers' and the 2.3 has 4, but you'd need to have the valve cover off to see that.

Per Esslinger Engineering the 2.0 head with three cam towers was for the 1971/74 engines. Later 2.0 heads were the same as the 2.3 head. The only difference in the 2.0 and the 2.3 were cylinder bores. joe b
