View Full Version : What's happening here!
dlibson Jun 04 2007, 07:12pm What I am doing here is compiling year by year info for Rangers, and the Ranger's competition. I will break it down in here year be year. If anyone would like to contribute, that would be fine. I need year by year breakdown of the Ranger. It's models, packages, body, drivetrain, so on. I also need the same info for Chevy, Nissan, Toyota and so on...
Thanks.
Thank you for not insisting that there is such a thing as a 5th generation Ranger :E
I have sales brochures for everything between 83 and 01. I'll start compiling info for you.
emgriggs887 Jun 17 2007, 05:39pm I was a Ford Salesperson for a little while, let me see what kind of info I have and I'll get it to you.
dlibson Jun 19 2007, 05:44pm Sounds good guys, any info helps. I am taking my time with this as to make it as accurate as I can...
emgriggs887 Jun 19 2007, 06:44pm moved a little while back, not sure where all my binders of info are, I'll keep looking though
PickupMan92 Jun 19 2007, 10:10pm make sure you get all the "rare" models. Ranger GTs, Saleen Rangers, and also a heavily talked about subject when it came out was the 01 reg cab 4.0.
They did offer them in a:
4.0 SOHC reg cab 4x4 auto and stick
4.0 SOHC reg cab 4x2 auto and stick
was still offered in fleet rangers as well.
This is gonna be once helluva project.
emgriggs887 Jun 19 2007, 10:44pm yeah then there was also a ford ranger thunderbird (factory option) I believe, customazation was by SLP, I believe they were only offered in, reg cab 4X2 stick, correct me if I'm wrong
NVRDONE Jun 21 2007, 12:52pm yeah then there was also a ford ranger thunderbird (factory option) I believe, customazation was by SLP, I believe they were only offered in, reg cab 4X2 stick, correct me if I'm wrong

Yeah man all this RPS is going to your head  lol
emgriggs887 Jun 22 2007, 12:00am got that right
Update: 4:47am I haven't been offline since my last post, I need to go to bed at some point don't I?
BlueMan Jun 22 2007, 06:44am Not all of these "models" are true models, but just options, or regional packages that were often dealer installed. I remember up here in the NY, there were dealers that were selling "Watkins Glen" edition Ranger GT's back in the 80's. They weren't anything much more than a couple decals, performance tire upgrade, and bucket seats if I remember right.
this is from a local paper (http://fultonhistory.com/Process%20small/Newspapers/Valley%20News/Oswego%20Valley%20News%20Feb-May%201990%20pdf/Newspaper%20%20Oswego%20Valley%20News%20Feb-May%201990%20-%201256.pdf) back in 1990:
1219
The 4.0 std cab was just a fluke that Ford stopped building, it wasn't meant to be a muscletruck race option or anything.

Don't forget the 4-Dr Ext Cab!! EVERYONE seems to forget about that!!
emgriggs887 Jul 26 2007, 08:21pm you would think owning one I wouldn't forget, but yet, I did, lol
Gizmokid2005 Jul 26 2007, 08:31pm you would think owning one I wouldn't forget, but yet, I did, lol
The thing is, it just seems to affect my year....EVERY site I've gone too (edmunds, MSN autos, etc) has failed to list 4-Dr as an option...but I couldn't imagine having an ext cab 2-Dr....
emgriggs887 Jul 26 2007, 08:45pm buddy of mine had one, he said it was pretty much useless, oh well, live and learn

'91 Project-STX Jun 20 2009, 09:44pm 1989-92 rangers were in the same generation as the 85-22, but underwent a slight face lift, featuring a wrap around assembly insted of a flat front with side marker. the packages included 2dr regular cab and 2 door extended cab, regular cabs featured a 8 foot bed(with tailgate) while the extended cab had a 6 foot bed(including tailgate) 2.9 heads changed in 1989 for better protection against blowing head gaskets and a shift on the fly push button 4x4 was added, also had a button for low range below it included. package types included ranger, ranger xlt, and ranger stx. engines included a 2.3 inline 4cyl 2.9 v6 and a 4.0 v6 for all years, in 1991 the 3.0 v6 was added for 91 and 92 models.
