Hey I've got a 2000 ranger 2.5L that i'm finally getting around to fixing up a bit.
I've got bigger wheels, put on a K&N performance intake, got a tune up (plugs and wires), and a new fuel filter

I'm planning on doing dual exhaust and a free flow cat.
Also I want to get a tuner so I can make the best use of the 93 octane and have a high HP for normal driving and high torque program for towing the boat.

I looked into a bunch of tuners and could not find one for the 2.5L. I e-mailed Doug @ bamachips like 2 weeks ago but I have yet to get a response.

Anyone got a solution?

He doesn't support the limas, I think he said there wasn't enough to get to make it worth the effort.

that seems to be the same deal all across the internet.
is there no love for the limas?
I don't understand why. It's a great engine. Big enough to tow my boat, haul a ton of rocks, and do a little light off roading. Plus I can still make 30mpg.
why all the haters?

If everyone won't do it, that should tell you something. Put your money into upgrading the parts that aren't ideal for performance - the head & the cam. Limas don't breathe well for higher performance so I wouldn't even consider other parts before putting a performance cam in there first.

It's not hate, it's just physics and a dose of reality. Unfortunately you can't have your cake and eat it too - performance and 30MPG on a lima isn't gonna happen. bumping up the ponies will decrease your mileage some but it shouldn't hurt it too bad - you can still be in the low 20's and make good power.

gotcha. thanks BlueMan for the help.
it looks like i'm just going to have to bite the bullet and start tearing into the engine. I really wanted the tuner b/c it seemed like an easy way to get another maybe 15hp out of my daily driver without having to worry about not having a car to drive for a few days at a time.

again i appreciate the straightforward advice,
and ur right... it's not hate... it's just tough love.
