Ok, I'm asking for some advise. I now have the stock 16" Firestone Wilderness recalled tires on my truck right now. I am of course going to go out and get new larger tires and get my refund from Ford for the firestones.

What is the largest size I can fit on my Ranger, without a lift, and on the stock 16" rims?

I have seen some different opinions, from 265/75/r16's, to 31/10.5/R16, to 285's might fit or might not. Can I hear from some people that hiave those sizes on their rides?

Also, what is your opinion on what brand/series tire. I do alot of highway driving, but also a little offroad.

Anyone want to chime in?

Thanks,

Brent

whats the add-a-leaf, and how much was it... I know that you can lift the front with the torsion bar crank, but where did you get the add-a-leaf and how much was it?

Yeah, what's an "add-a-leaf"? Sounds cool.

You get an extra leaf to stick in the spring pack, and it will give you a bit more lift. Actually, quite a bit more lift. But you got to haul all your springs out to do this.

I have a 4x4 offroad, and at full turn with some articulation in the suspension, the tires very very very slightly rub against the inner fender wells. BTW i have BF Goodrich AT KO's. . 265/75/16(These tires are the shiznit, great for off road and have 45,000 miles on em and theyve still got hella tread. . . )But also, i have stock rims. Aftermarket rims with a few mm less of backspacing and they wouldnt rub.

Justy3099,

did you do the torsion bar adjustment on the front to try to stop the rubbing?

no i never have. I dont off road a whole lot, so the amount of rubbing happens so infrequently i havent ever worries about it. . .
If you do plan on off roading a lot, i would definently do that though:)

any suggestions on tire brand and type? i drive about 30 highway miles a day to work, so i want something that rides decent and will wear ok on highway, but i also want something that works half decent offroad, and looks kewl :)

man you gotta get BFG AT KO's. These IMO are the greatest truck tire. They will never go flat(don't hold me to that), but i work around construction, and my last two trucks thats all ive ran. . . Very durable. The 265/75/16's run around $130 per tire. . . Like i said above, i have about 45k on mine and they still have an ass load of tread left. They kick ass in the winter, and are pretty good in the mud(their 1000 times better in the mud than those nasty firestones that originally came on my 99). And they have these cool as lugs on the outer edge of the tire. Oh and they have whats called a "rim protector" it wouldnt save you if you were rock climbing or anything, but they do stick out like 1/2" from the rim. Theyve came into benefit a couple times for me. . .

Here's a link to some pics of my truck, not real great tire pics, but it will give you a idea of the stance your truck would have. . .

I wanted to get BFG 265's (AT KO's) and the guy at Discount Tire said that the ball joint would rub on the inner sidewall!! I put my hand behind the tire and he's right ... the ball joint is very close (about an inch and a half away) now, with the stock 245's. Has anyone had any rubbing after putting on 265's? Have you checked for rubbing???:cussing:

Pirate-

I think the answer might lie in the fact that you drive a sport. I have an off road, and the off-roads have a different set up on the front suspension .. . the only thing that rubs is my tire against the inner fender, and thats only at maximum articulation with the wheel fully turned. . .
