It's been a few months, I see I am going to have to re-add my Avatar when I get home.....

But Anyways,

I have a '95 4X4 X-Cab 4.0 with ABS. ( I am pretty sure its four wheel, at least it feels like it when I hit the brakes in the mud)

The other night I was out 4-wheelin, and got bottomed out in the creek.(bummer) I went an got my F-150, to winch it out,(BTW never buy that warn 9000XDI, try to get the old 8000 upright if you can) but I was having serious winch problems... so I had to leave the truck practicly under water overnight. Just enough to cover the floorboard real good, and ruin my changer and amp.

Any way I brought it in the shop and took it apart pulled the carpet... etc. changed the oil three times, air filter. Finally got all the water out of the system, and it runs great again. But now My ABS light is messin with me...

-----------Problem--------------

So when I crank the truck if I hold the brake down while cranking, the light stays on, even after I feel that comforting little ABS thump.
If I don't hold the brake down the light will go off after the thump, but this is where it gets wierd. If I don't move the truck and hit the break the light will come on, but If I go ahead and back out, and continue to work, the light stays out, at least until the next time I crank the truck.... And yes the ABS does still seem to be working, even with the light on, so...

-------------Question---------------

I have seen other posts about how to test RABS systems, is there a way to do this for mine? I think that it is just a sensor dirty or gone bad, but I really don't want to pay ford to check it.
I would even go as far to buy my own tester,(if I could find one cheap enough) but I don't know about the type of brake system my truck has...

Has anyone else ever had this problem? Any ideas at all?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

ThaZiPSteR

BTW sorry for the book, but I've had plenty of time to think about what to say ;)

Chilton says that certain services should be done immediatley after certain parts are submerged in water. It's either Chilton or the Ford manual that came with my 99. If I recall, you are supposed to flush the differentials and the trans if they have been submerged in water--but thats just what I read somewhere. If I recall there is an ABS sensor in the rear diff. as well.

Good luck,
Drew

Thanks Drew,

Yea I flushed everything, even repacked the hubs and all, boy did it need it, but it prob wouldn't hurt to do it again, so I will start on that saturday.. I plan to make a trip to the junkyard too, go ahead and get some buckets for it, and some other little stuff...

Thanks Again,

Alright how about this.....

Does anybody know where the sensors are for this thing?

I figure there should be one on each wheel, but I took it down today and repacked the berings and hubs, and changed the seal... While I was in there I didn't see any wires, or anything that really looked like a sensor, I have been trying to avoid a chilton or other manual... but I guess I may have to get one, I hope it has more info...

All I saw on the passenger side front wheel were two hydraulic lokkin lines, one that went to the caliper, and one that looked like it went into the back of the axle mount thingy, I figured it had something to do with the automatic hubs...

Should I just go out and buy a book?

Thanx again guys,

they make things called tow-straps. you hook one end to a stuck vehicle, and hook the other end to a working, movable, non-stuck vehicle and pull the said stuck vehicle out of the problematic area.

i would NEVER leave my truck out in some river or ****.

what engine did your 150 have? if it was the bigger V8, then you shoulda been able to pull it out if you could have winched it.

get the shop to reset the ECU or something. disconnect the battery overnight, and it might take care of it.

i wasnt even aware that the front end had ABS, i know it doesnt on mine. found out the hard way on that one (damn the trashcans, bent my license plate hanger on the front)

when you go to the Junkyard, can you get me a MAF sensor out of a 3.0L (i have a 93, so anything of a similar year is great). doesnt need wires or anything, just the sensor, i want to mill it out. and while you are there, if you see a front bumper with the plastic plate holder that isnt broken, i need that too. pretty please... :)

good luck with the ABS

It was a 97 F150 with the 5.4L triton V8... trust me I didn't want to leave it in the creek over night... I have a warn 9000xdi, there was no moving the thing... it was bottomed out, I wish I could post some pics... I may find a place to later.

Thanks for the help, and if you are serious, I will look for your parts tommorrow... we have three big junyards in the area, the smallest of wich is 80 Acres..
