Hey guys, I am a new guys here. I was reffered to this site both by people at rrorc.com and sccoa.com. I have an 1989 2wd ex-cab ranger that I dropped a supercharged 3.8L out of a t-bird in. I am looking into bigger brakes for it now cuz the 1 piston calipers SUCK. Anyway, I am putting custom widened forged beams off an 83-88 style. I was told that some of the 94's or 95's had the 2 piston calipers that use the V clips similar to the earlier styles. Is this true? I was just gonna weld a bracket to the spindle and bolt on 4 piston calipers off a 4wd toyo, but if the ranger 2 pistons will go right on I will just use those. Also, does anyone know of a larger rotor that will fit these spindles. Thanks. Steve

I could be wrong, but w/ all the Rangers Ive seen at work, Ive never seen one w/ 2 piston calipers.

Hey, Steve! Nice to see you here!

Here's what I've heard...

Beginning with MY95, the front brakes were changed to a 2-piston caliper that bolts on. Using these calipers requires the 95+ spindles (and I-beams if you have a pre-89, because of how and where the ball joints are pressed in). With those parts, it's a bolt-on. I've never heard of 2-piston calipers on a Ranger that uses the pins to hold the caliper. Given that you're starting out with 83-88 beams, you might be out of luck for this method.

Rotors - one of the guys here (Brandon Miller) is working on a project to use Mustang rotors in combination with the hub center from a Ranger rotor. I know on my truck (a 94), larger rotors would be out of the question without major surgery to the spindles, because of how the calipers mount.

And welcome to the board - it's nice to see RRORC people referring to us.

Also, aren't you in California? Check out the Fabulous Fords Show link in my signature :E

thanks for the help guys. This is what I thought. I know ford went to 2 piston calipers after 94 1/2 or 95, and I thought they were all bolt on but my friend thought there were some w/ V clips - guess not. I guess i'm back to my old plan then. I have to keep the 83-88 spindles because I am using those beams, so I will cut the old caliper mounts off and weld on plates to hold some toyo 4 piston calipers ;). Ok now for the 2nd half of the question. Do any of you know a larger rotor/bearings that will fit on the 83-88 spindles - keep in mind caliper mountrs will no longer be a problem. Thanks. is it fast with that motor? how did u get it to fit. i say instead of that, get drilled/slotted rotors and good braked pads w/ a 3/4 drop. jcwhitney has em for 65 bucks a piece and they carry the brake pads to. y waste ur time riggin up some thing like. i know the rangers dont stop good(trust me 99ranger aka josh knows they do work real good)i say use the 2 piston calipers to w/ the slotted/drilled brakes

just my .02

Somehow I just don't see Steve dropping his truck :E

Send Brandon Miller a private message, he's working on larger rotors for his Bronco II.

This thing flies! which is why I ned to be able to stop it. Sorry, but there is not way in HELL I will be dropping my ranger. I know I will cause tension here yb saying this (I don't mean to cause trouble) but I HATE lowered trucks (but that's JUST MY OPINION). Ok back to the topic. I will not be lowering considering I am making custom beams that are 4" wider per side than stock, and I just paid $900 for used shocks! They are 14" travel coilovers! I will have about 19" of travel in the front end and will be sitting about 6" higher than stock. Ok about brandon miller - how do I PM him? Thanks. Steve:afro:
