But what do I know, we don't have ethanol up here in WA state.. hmccall4 Jun 20 2008, 05:36am If its flex fuel then no mods needed...If its not flex fuel then...I have no idea BOSS 3.0 Jun 20 2008, 08:03am We do have E85 here now - check the E85 threads. There is a new station in Marysville. E85 is possible with a tune, running my Focus and Explorer (on and off) with E85, going back to just E85 on both next tank. Flash, Fill, Drive... mudn98 Jun 23 2008, 12:35pm where @ in marysville i was going 2 shiremamstown where u from boss? BOSS 3.0 Jun 23 2008, 01:18pm Marysville, WA 98271 I'm in Sasquatch Country... mudn98 Jun 23 2008, 01:21pm lol i thought u were in pa Sportin 07 Jun 23 2008, 01:25pm not to try and jack your thread but, i have been usuing e85 in my 3.0 for about a month now, and seeing horrible gas milage compared to regular gas, i know it burns better and what not so i was expecting a decrease, but i figured the decrease in miles would make up for the price differance. but it sont for me, i get around 18 in the city on reg pump gas and only 12 on e85 do i need a tune or something? BOSS 3.0 Jun 23 2008, 07:31pm What is your PCM code? I can check to see if there are gas/ethanol adjustments, but most tuning is Gas specific or E85 specific, based on the flexible nature of the E85 standards (70%, 74% or 78% Ethanol). CUTiger Jun 24 2008, 07:22pm not to try and jack your thread but, i have been usuing e85 in my 3.0 for about a month now, and seeing horrible gas milage compared to regular gas, i know it burns better and what not so i was expecting a decrease, but i figured the decrease in miles would make up for the price differance. but it sont for me, i get around 18 in the city on reg pump gas and only 12 on e85 do i need a tune or something? The decrease is more because the heating value is about 68% that of regular gas...12 is about 66% of 18 so that makes sense but is a little lower then expected, and the cost needs to be around 68% that of gas to really save any green at the pump. Theres more to it then that but you get the general idea. Just curious whats E85 costing in your area? here its $3.45, E10 is $3.79, and pure gas is $3.99, so in theory E85 is costing me about $.70 more per gallon then pure gas. mudn98 Jun 25 2008, 06:21pm the number 8 digit in my vin is u does this mean i cant run e85 if i cant can i get a tune 2 run it? Joe Turner Jun 26 2008, 07:56am You can run it, but it wont run right haha. My buddy has a 91 ranger and a 98 bonneville. He's "all about" E85 and runs it in a mix of 75%E and 25%G. They run pretty damn good, just a bit sluggish. Probobly due to the small injector size. mudn98 Jun 26 2008, 10:15am You can run it, but it wont run right haha. BOSS 3.0 Jul 02 2008, 10:51am ...at your own risk, yes. Some vehicles have issues with the E85 as it is a VERY good solvent, and loosens up every piece of gunk in your fuel system. Filters and injectors can be clogged. There is also the risk of damage that may occur. After a couple tanks of E10, E20 and a 50/50, I swapped fuel filters and went to straight E85. I've been running my Focus off and on with ONE slight issue; a "grunt" from the fuel pump if I cycle the key on, let the pump charge and then off, there is an o-ring that makes a noise. Add regular fuel and it goes away. Go back to E85 and after 3 tanks it comes back. Goto 50/50 and there is no issue at all. Is this a bing deal? Not to me. I'm well out of warantee and if something goes, I have the skillz to replace it, cheap. This is mainly sold as a "Emergency Preparation" thing (i.e.; emergency comes and gas is sold out), but I run multiple tanks of E85, then regular gas to alternate due to all the device/additive testing I do. The Wife's Explorer is going to E85 after we finish evaluating the new SCT Economizer flash tuner. Robin Hood Jul 02 2008, 01:07pm ...at your own risk, yes. I've been reading a few other threads and you say you lose the "on the go" switching (50/50 or 100 E85) what is it that does that on normal flex fuel rangers? BOSS 3.0 Jul 02 2008, 01:21pm Bigger injectors are not mandatory unless you plan on running it hard. If this is a DD with no issues, the 14's will work, but only to a point - NO WOT. If you were to replace the injectors, you would need a custom tune for gas too, to get the fuel right. If you are going to do injectors, find 24# Explorer FFV SOHC injectors and you are completely covered.
