Got the charger all back together. The rear bearings that are lubed by grease were still in fair condition with just a slight bit of pitting but still ok IMO. On the other hand the front bearings that are lubed by the gear oil were worn pretty well, really rough and a good bit of play in them compared to the new bearings. The previous owner said he was using an oil he got from Napa, on the bottle it read "Supercharger oil" lol so I have no idea what this stuff was but obviously it wasn't a very good oil for the kenne bells. I am going to be using Redline 50wt race oil in it. The "catch" it had in it ended up being a bad spot on the end of one of the teeth of the smaller driven gear. Looks like someone had it apart before and some how nicked the tooth or dropped the gear. The spot is right on the end of the tooth out of the meshing pattern between the gears so I'm sure it will be ok. I carefully filed it down and let me tell you these gears are super hard and not filed easily. After doing this it spins freely now, nice and smooth.

Some other issues I have been working on. The intake manifold on the charger was hitting the FPR on the explorer fuel rail even with a .500" intake spacer, so I put a 94-95 rail on and the FPR clears but only with the spacer. I don't quite understand this since this charger is for a 94-95 mustang and it will not fit with the correct fuel rail without the spacer. I am wondering if the mounting plane for the upper on the explorer lower intake i am using sits lower than a mustang cobra lower? Also without the spacer I think the head unit would be sitting right on the valve cover. Since the explorer rail line connections are at the rear and the mustangs are at the front I had to lengthen the fuel lines and reroute. Also decided to move the throttle cable over on the firewall so it would not be in such a bind. It was having to make a 90 degree turn upwards with the manifolds mocked up on the lower. I just moved the throttle cable over to the hole that the hood release cable comes through and moved the hood release cable over to a spare hole that is on the other side of the brake booster. Worked out well this way. Modified the throttle pedal with an extension bracket to match the hole and mount the cable to.

Now I need to seal the manifolds to the head unit and get it bolted down so I can see what needs to be done with the front drive support bracket and measure for the belt.

Thanks Fox!

Why was my post moved in here? I think it would get more exposure on the main v8 board that's why I posted it there. Not many people look on the power adder board.

Funny, you are going through all the learning steps I back in 2003! I ended up using the standard mustang lower to avoid the whole throttle cable issue. It has the compressor about 1-1.5" closer to centerline of vehicle and clears the cable.

I also used a 1" phenolic spacer to provide rail, valve cover, and power steering line clearance. This caused me to make custom coil and throttle cable brackets.

For the front support, I used a chopped up 87-93 KB bracket and a plate of aluminum. If you like, send me your address and I can send a 1:1 sketch you can duplicate to save some time - won't be exact since you have GT40 lower and 1/2" spacer, but should get you off to a start. I can also send detail on the bolt lengths and spacer needed to get the bracket bolted to the accessory pacakge.

Here are some pictures - there are several pages to the link:

Sup Todd! I finally got the truck running yesterday with the charger on, the tune is not quite right yet but I drove it to work and back at lite loads and part throttle. I did a split second WOT jab a time or two just to see how much boost it was putting out, I seen 5-6 PSI which is right for the pulley setup I am using. Where I moved the throttle cable worked out great and I ended up trying to fit the charger on without the 1/2 intake spacer just to see, had to bend the FPR nipple over just a tad and it fit with about .007 clearance between the bottom of the charger housing and the driver side valve cover, its just enough to get a sheet of paper in between lol!!

How did you tune your setup. Did you use the BAP or a FMU?

Sounds good. Get some pics and some videos when you get it tuned in.

I ran without a tune at first - maybe 10K miles or so. I did have a return fuel system setup, so I was able to tweek the fuel pressure and run a boost reference line to the regualtor. When I put on 39lb injectors and the Pro-M MAF, I had and SCT tune flashed onto my PCM.

now, GET SOME PICTURES OF THE FINISHED PRODUCT!

I am attempting to do all of my tuning with the Tweecer, so I am not using a BAP, FMU, or BAS. I do have the stock FPR boost referenced though. I also have a set of 39lb cobra injectors for the engine I am putting together now which I plan to run 10PSI on. Right now the engine is running pretty rich everywhere, I wanted it to be safe on the initial running/testing with the charger. Here is a quick pic I took today, it needs a good cleaning and polishing!

Thanks!

I have decided to go ahead and install the BBK intake pipe and March ram air I have before getting into the tune too much as adding these later will greatly affect the tune especially on a PD supercharged engine. Plus the fact that the ACT was pretty high at cruise speeds from looking at my data logs but thats to be expected somewhat with these chargers. Hopefully the new setup will help in getting the temps down a little. So I have the truck back in my shop now installed these items. Just from the initial test fitting everything seems like it is going to fit very well, exactly how I had it planned out in my head. So hopefully this weekend I will have the new air intake tract in place. Pics to come.

Hey Mdnt,
If you need the injector breakpoints/slopes/voltage offsets, shoot me a PM.

I've got a bit of experience with those 39.5s and a tweecer... :naughty:

Did you move the IAT to the #1 runner? Definitely want to measure the intake air after the compressor. Also, I assume the ram air takes in air outside the engine compartment. Nothing worse than suching in heated under hood air with a blower!

Yep, it's in the #5 runner. The ram air is going to be mounted under the bumper :)
