this worked for my 94 2wd...
Well, thanks to the great threads about changing the dreaded pan gaskets and oil pans on these 3.0L motors, we finally got ours done. Most of the guys pulled the trannies, motors, pass I beams, etc. Well, we got her with out it being a major operation, for the most part. What we did to get the pan off was this:
1. pull the starter + distributer cap
2. pull the intake hose
3. take the two nuts off the top off the motor mounts
4. take the two nuts off the bottom of the crossmember for the trans
5. Use an engine hoist on the one stud on the intake towards the front of the engine with a very short chain.
6. Jack up the pass side of the truck until the front pass wheel of off the ground and put a jackstand under it.
7. put a jack with a block of wood under the tranny pan.
8. slowly work the tranny and the motor up with the hoist and the jack as high as they can go. (Motor about 5", tranny about 4")
9. take the pan bolts off and slip the pan out.
Install is vise versa! We fiddled with this all weekend and what a pain in the butt! Once we found the correct procedure, it really was simple. Just had to guide the tranny and motor back into place which was pretty easy. The motor/tranny moves forward as it raises so it just took a little guidence to get the two tranny mount stud back into the holes but once it was in place the motor dropped right back onto the two motor mount studs. We ended up acutally taking the drivers side mount loose from the bottom cause we couldnt get the top nut off the stud but it didnt cause any issues. Just thought I'd post this to help anybody needing to do this. It was much easier not having to seperate the motor and trans. Hope this helps!
