If it is not in warrenty anymore take the cover off and look at the board. Most of the time you will be able to spot what blew. Just desolder it off the board and solder a new peice back on. If it is still under warrenty call soundstream up directly and talk to them about getting a RA number.

Best bet would be Radio Shack.

Capacitors? It sounds to me that you may have fried more than that. probably transistors as well. I wish I could help more but it is tough with out seeing it in front of me. check the fuses both internal and external. I hope his helps some.

ahh now i remember...he said it was the 4 or so output transistors...so i guess all i got to do is open it up and get the numbers of them and then order them from parts express or go to radio shack or somthing??

The only thing to worry about is, different manufacturers use different #'s for the same part. There is a book that has the #'s all broken down, but I forget the name. If you can't find the parts from a radio shack or such, I would call the company that makes your amp. I am currently having this problem with a guitar amp I blew. Only prob is the company that made it went out of business, otherwise I'd do the same. Good luck.

How old is the amp ?
The reason I ask is because I blew the outputs on a 10 year old PPI amp (Pro MOS 2050) and I shipped it off to PPI for repair. Two weeks later it came back all fixed with a $75.00 repair bill (well worth it IMO). If I were you I'd check with SoundStream and see it they can fix it. My guess is that the shop you took it too just wanted to replace the whole board it make it a fast and easy repair. SoundStream will bench test the amp and then replace only what's needed to get it working again.
Good Luck and let us all know how you make out.

Just give them a call, their number is (916) 351-1288 and their web address is www.soundstream.com/main.html
Their web site isn't much help so I'd just call them. Make sure you have your model and serial number on hand before you call them because they might ask for it. Again, let us know how you make out.

Say Kelly3.0,
How did you make out with your amp ? Were you able to get in touch with Soundstream and what did they say ?
Later !
