will a 8.8 rear end out of an 89 mustang fit in a 1994 ford ranger? any help with this would be appreciated.

the gears... yes, 1 of the axle shafts yes, but the rearend as a whole will not work. best bet is an explorer rearend.

'Stangs are coil spring rear, so no, not a direct swap. X2 on the Exploder rear.

Mustang's have a different offset as well. The pumpkin will not be in the right spot for a ranger...

Are the explorer rears direct bolt in? I wouldn't mind having an 8.8 but I want it more so for the rear disc brakes. I understand the ranger 8.8 is a direct bolt in but what about the explorer rear? Do you have to make any modifications to the width, driveshaft, or leaf spring pads?

this has been cover tons of times... but the explorer rear is a little wider, about .75 in on each side. it's basically bolt in depending on what shock mounts you use. you can use the explorer shock under leaf type of mount but you can to use 2 of the same ones, i believe it's two passenger mounts.

Cool thanks man. Yeah I searched the forums but I mostly found threads showing where people have already swapped them out. Not really what they had to do for the swap. Thanks for the help.

Hey, question. The Mountaineer is no different from the Explorer, right? I've found a few 5.0 Mountaineer rear-ends laying around a couple junkyards near me that seems like they'd fit, but i don't know. I've never messed with them. They're all from either 4x4 or AWD. Is there a possible problem foreseen here?
