Hey, I've posted before about an annoying chirp on cold mornings or whenever the truck is cold. I had a shop look at it and he determined it was coming from a metal ring where the drivetrain(?) goes into the transfer case. I'm not totally literate in these things. I unfortunatley didn't pick the truck up in time to talk to him, but he expained it the best he could over the phone.
From what i've figured out this could possibly be the dust shield, it should be turning with the shaft, but it gets stucks and then the chirping occurs, and goes away when it loosens back up and spins. How should this work properly? and has anyone else had a problem like this, if so whats the best way to remedy it?
Thanks a ton!

Guess I'm not sure what your looking at. I have seen the bushings in the tail housing make noise when cold. It's the one the drive shaft rides on.

I found this picture, which seems to be the piece im talking about except mine looks to be aluminum with no rust at all

As I said it chirps very bad when it doesn't spin, should it be spinning or not? does it hurt to remove it?

When your not moving its chirping?

nope, just while moving till the metal/rubber gets warmed up (at least i assume) I greased it up and it helped greatly, now sometimes when I hit a bump it'll move it into not turning mode and chirp for a bit till it breaks free.

Does it spin?
I think the yoke is suppose to push it into place. Maybe your yoke is loose, allowing it to wobble and make noise.
Are you out of warranty?

I am as of December :(
How could I test if the yolk was loose?

You would need to take the drive shaft off and check the nut holding the yoke on is torqued correctly.
If you were going to take the drive shaft off you might as well replace the part or remove it.

Thanks for all your help, your educating me a ton!
Would taking that shield off cause any problems in the future or not really?
