View Full Version : 4.6 Dohc into 93 Ranger
Burkard Feb 16 2009, 10:43am Im 15 from New Jersey, I just fitted up the 4.6 in my truck with the tremec 5-speed on it, it fits pretty well, went in with little problems, im planning on getting the carbeurator kit for it soon or a kennebell supercharger with stage 3 cams, now I just have to take it out and put the mounts on it that I made and put it back in, and splice the harness, then get an 8.8 rear in the back... then im good to go... it should be running by the summer, at least before I get my permit... any suggestions, I dont know a lot about fords, I just got lucky and got a 4.6 for $250 and I knew what I wanted to do with it then I found a 93 Ranger with 186000miles on the 2.3 that barely ran anymore For $800

dlibson Feb 16 2009, 09:18pm Nice work!
Write it all up here!
We need more 4.6 powered Rangers!
This build really interest me. The Mark VIII 4.6, is a Cobra motor with 280-290HP!
This little truck is gonna move with that stock motor. Mark VIII's are cheap to pick up, and have a power-house waiting to be used for a project like this.
PLEASE keep us informed on your progress and problems you've overcome.
Burkard Jun 08 2009, 07:52pm yea about 300hp until next year itll be more like 800hp haha
BlueMan Jun 08 2009, 08:05pm They don't have emissions testing in NJ? While I don't think you'd have a problem with the 4.6l, I'd question about getting it to past most states with a carb instead of EFI on there. You're also going to have to address the ignition system.
A DOHC for $50 is a bargain and a half - nice progress so far. Just don't wrap it around a tree & kill yourself or other people, as that's gonna be a lot of power to get that light truck to try and stick to the pavement, even before the blower.
4Bangin96 Jun 10 2009, 04:03pm Thats awesome man. What did you do for the headers? Did the stock manifolds work?
rangersplash2.3 Jun 10 2009, 04:30pm ive always wanted to do that to mine. we need more 4.6 rangers
Burkard Jun 10 2009, 08:03pm the headers arent done but im gonna have them go around the steering shaft and then down
4Bangin96 Jun 11 2009, 05:28pm Thats cool man, did you happen to try it with the manifolds at all or did you just rip them off before you tried to drop it in? Im curious if they hug the block enough to clear on the inside of the steering or not. Maybe throw in a u joint with a hiem on the frame rail for stability if I have to. I really would never need headers unless the manifolds wont work, the motor has plenty of power to push the bagged truck around they way it is. lol.
dlibson Jun 12 2009, 06:13am It won't fit with the manifolds unless. No way, no how...
If you had a body lift and set the motor high, maybe you could then, but not lowered.
