well here is what I bought today... I bought this beauty up at a salvage auction yesterday for the lovely sum of $350!!! Gonna start to disassemble tomorrow, and then the fun stuff begins. the only parts I am going to change are the cam, and put some headers. then I will have a local shop here, that specializes in mustangs, do a custom tune on the computer for the cam. let me know what you think!

drove this thing 35 miles to the shop only to realize that the frame damage at the rear was so bad that both leaf springs were broke at the shackle and the rear was being held in by the fron bolts only.. wow!

Here are a couple of pics of my ranger... its a 99 xlt sport with the 3.0 v6 and a 5spd. Should see a small improvment in power dont you think? The Expo I bought is a 98 xlt 2wd and a pretty nice truck overall except for the hideous damage at the rear.

Welcome to the wacky world, good buy and nice truck for the transplant. Be careful in your cam selection, lots of posts about the good, bad and the ugly. Same goes for header selection, best out there are the Torque Monsters but they run ablut $780. Keep us all posted on progress.

im just going with a mild E303 cam nothing crazy. I hate to say it but $780 for shorty headers is pretty high, I am going to have a hard time spending more that 2x the amount for headers as I paid for the whole truck... I dont care how good they are. I can most likely buy the mandrel bends and have some headers built for less than that, and thats most likely what I will do. Or I may just run the manifolds and keep the engine stock, I dont know. The only reason they charge that much is because they are the only ones making them and can charge whatever they want.

I's sure check out the comments about using the "E" cam with the Explorer computer before you go out and buy one. The headers are not shorty's by any means. Takes some work to clear everything. Seems like it's kind of tight in there.

yea with the stock tune in the comp it will run crappy but I can have the comp tuned with a company here that specializes in mustang and ford custom tuning... he says he can make it work, but well see. Sounds like Ill just be leaving everything stock....lol Im trying to make this swap as easy as possible.

What people have done is use an adjustable timing gear set and retard the timing 4 degs when using the "E" cam. We all would like to see things simple and easy.
