my friends bronco2bug (see avatar) failed inspection because the DMV couldnt find the frame ID, does anybody know where it is on the frame?

I want to say it's in the framerail towards the back.

Thats a new one on me. Ive never heard of them looking for something like that. But I believe that what it is is a VIN number thats stamped on the frame. Its there so that if someone strips down a vehicle it can still be identified. As to exactly where it is, I dont have a clue.
