8secSplash Jul 05 2009, 08:41pm Here is a little project I have been working on and off, on (more off than on lol) for a while. I just got back to working on it last month and cant wait to get it finished. I just picked up the front clip, lowering beams, fuel cell and hose this weekend.

86ranger351w Jul 05 2009, 09:23pm I like. :rocking: What did you do for a roll cage?
8secSplash Jul 05 2009, 09:29pm I had a local chassis shop do the cage. For the E.T.'s that I hope to accomplish, I wanted to make sure it was done right. As far as material goes, it is mild steel.

1mean02hd Jul 06 2009, 08:12pm I'm guessing you bought the rear clip??? Who makes it?

Everything seen "inside the bed" came from there.

B 347 Jul 06 2009, 10:39pm Thought it looked familiar. That's pretty much the same setup I have in my 63 Falcon.
Alstons (Chassiworks) has high quality parts for a fair price.
My Mazda has a set of 32" ladder bars also from them.
Where did you splice the factory frame to the frame rails?
Do you have any pics, where the cage is connected to the frame beneath the Cab?

The frame is spliced right at the back of the cab.
I dont have any pictures of the cage at that point but will try to get some.

Very nice build.Could you get a close up pic of where the old frame/new frame are tied together.I was thinking of narrowing my frame rails in the future. Thanks
1mean02hd Jul 10 2009, 10:08pm Alston makes excellent chassis components. Build looks sick keep up on some pics.
8secSplash Jul 21 2009, 05:19pm I have started hanging the front fenders and such, also have picked up my Eagle crank and rods along with my Strange center section. I'll try and get some pictures up this weekend.

8secSplash Aug 19 2009, 06:57pm Sorry about not getting any pictures us yet, been busy with work. A little update on the parts list: The heads have been at the machine shop getting "touched up";), when done we will build a cam based on the flow numbers, fuel cell is mounted, fuel pump/filter and more fitting came in today, center section is in. Need to find a set of 95-97 front spindles and install the lowering beams to finish up the front end. I will try to get some pictures this weekend.
Jimmy
Gerry Aug 22 2009, 03:17pm Very nice Jimmy... I'll have the rest of the front clip for you in a few weeks. I'm also working on getting you a set of 95-97 spindles :E.
Gerry
8secSplash Sep 29 2009, 06:03pm A little update of sorts. Alot of money spent with little to show for it. The firewall has been smoothed, master cylinder, line lock, stainless steel brake lines with "an" fittings, front clip mount, custom steering column with quick release steering wheel, fuel system from fuel cell to the firewall, gauges, most wiring done, lowering beams in, late model spindles on, and a revision on engine plans.
Ive got the ride hight almost were I want it in the front, problem is the camber is NO were near were it needs to be. I am going to talk to my fabricator and see what we can do about it. May have to raise it up about 2 inches. Oh yeah, with cut springs and beams, the radius arm cross member is 1.5in from the ground...without an engine or trans!
New engine plans:
SVO "R" 302 block
Canfield Stage 3 heads that have been "touched up"
Ti 2.08 intake / Ti 1.60 exhaust
Eagle 4340 "H" beam 5.400 rods
Eagle 4340 3.470 crank
JE 4.125 bore, 6.5cc dome piston
=
371ci / 14.95 to 1cr
Here is a link to some updated pictures, I dont have pictures of everything listed yet....Ive been lazy...and busy....lol

Foxracin Sep 29 2009, 06:20pm Looks awesome man. One of the nicest Rangers I have seen.
mxracer652 Sep 29 2009, 06:28pm That's a mid 9 second ride if it's turning a little rpm...
What fuel are you using?
8secSplash Sep 29 2009, 06:43pm Should actually be mid to high 8's. Its only going to weight 2500-2600lbs. Be a little while before fuel is a concern. lol
Jimmy
1mean02hd Sep 29 2009, 08:41pm 15:1 compression smells like alcohol to me...
mxracer652 Sep 30 2009, 04:57am Should actually be mid to high 8's. Its only going to weight 2500-2600lbs. Be a little while before fuel is a concern. lol
Jimmy
That's in the >2.2 hp per cube territory, even at 2500#.
I find it difficult to believe you're going to swing that Chinese crank around fast enough to do it N/A, so.........how much spray?
8secSplash Sep 30 2009, 06:23am No spray.
Ive seen cars with smaller cubes and more weight go high 8's. Mine may run 8's it may run 11's, BUT on paper with what is planned it SHOULD go mid to high 8's. Those "chinese" cranks are holding in engines with 1000+/- hp, so my little engine should be ok. Im usually not too worried about testing or dyno numbers because if you look at what my V6 truck SHOULD run, it would be doing good to be in the low 13's much less knocking on the 11's. Stock computer, stock suspension and 3000lbs with a motor that makes less than 300hp and runs 12.0's.
BTW: I value your opinion, you obviously know more about this than I do. Mid 9's may be all it will do.
Jimmy
mxracer652 Sep 30 2009, 10:20am It's all good.
I/me personally would not be comfortable swinging that crank at 9,000+ rpm, which is what I'd think you'd need to turn to run that number. RPM tears up stuff way faster than power does.
I will tell you this: Have your guy check that crank over real good. On the 3.47" Eagle I have, the rod throws are not indexed to the keyway very well, and the journals were tapered. Check both rod ends, they are usually tight & need to be honed open a bit.
:hail: Im usually not too worried about testing or dyno numbers
I hate dyno racers.
