Can anyone point me to info on airbox, or intake tube mods?

Has anyone seen/heard about the Stillen 4.0 High flow intake? Seems like it might be a good item, but no pricing on the web yet..

If you would like to go the cheap way out you could do this. Made a big difference.

Looks like it to me. The granatelli MAF on TruckPerformance looks plastic so maybe that's it? :) I dunno though

N/M --^ stock :)

So,

A little baffle removal, a little cutting and its good to go...

Sounds easy enough.

Thanks yellowedge

I used a dremel to cut the box out. Jason

How the heck do you get the box out of the truck? It looks like it's held on with clips or something, but I can't yank the damn thing off. I was just thinking of removing the baffle for now. I'm waiting for K&N to release a FIPK.

There is a metal plate under the air box. The air box has (2) plastic plugs attached to it that penatrate this metal plate. Once you pop these plugs out of the plate it comes right out. It's a pain in the ass the first time around. Jason

They are to the right under the box looking at the engine compartment. Towards the engine. The side of the box closest to the engine is where you need to pull straight up. I found it easier to stick my hand up under the box and push on the plugs while you pull with the other hand. Jason

Remove more than the little horn or "baffle" as you call it. I did this first also and could not tell that much of a difference. While you have it out you might as well do the deed. It's not going to hurt anything if your going to replace it in the future with a cold air induction, etc.

Just pulled out the air box.... here's a tip for those not into yanking it...

Hit the round indents in the bottom of the air box and the nubs that stick in the fender apron with some silicone spray and it 'll come right out of the rubber grommets...

I used some silicone grease on mine when I put it back in, those in the fender fit loose anyway so I didn't do anything to them. I broke one of the bottom nubs off trying to get mine out because it moved over enough to hang under the hole. A little plastic epoxy and it was good to go again. Good suggestion on hitting them with some silicone first, I forgot those things have open ribs in them that the silicone would go through. :) I suppose they work as water drains too.

I'm going to pick up one at a scrap yard for my '98 - 4.0. That way if it doesn't work so well I can put the stock one back in. What kind of difference in gas mileage/performance did you guys get? My friend did a similar thing with his Suzuki Bandit 1200 motorcycle but determined that until he put on some exhaust and did some jetting it wasn't going to work so well.
Thanks,
W.

By itself, it doesn't make enough difference that you will notice it. It's all the small changes that add up, and this is just one of them. The biggest change I notice is the increased intake noise.
