What do you guys think about putting a stage 1 EFI nos kit on a ranger with a 2.9 and 125K miles? Keep in mind the trucks engine is very healthy and sees high speed runs with 5500 on the tach all the time. Currently I have 4.10s and swamper 30x11.50s and it can't spin the tires anymore like it did with those little tires on the pavement. Do you guys think a 60-75 hp shot with give a big boost in performance or just send my engine to the coffin in 5 uses?
For Mods I have full exhaust, intake, and port and polishing on the intake runners... Thanks I would like to see what you guys think both good and bad....
Another use I would of this system would be for mud boggin and hill climbin not just burning rubber....:afro:
Thanks the SheepRammer:drunk:

I used to know a guy who ran a 100 shot on his 2.9 all of the time. He said that you just have to be sure to use it above 3500rpms and at full throttle.

i have a 2.3 and i was wonderin about the whole nos deal,im not lookin for the ones with like 250 hp boosts, maybe 50 or 60.i have an automatic in mine.its a 93 single cab with 106000 miles on it,i have lately put 30 inch tires on it and it didnt exact;y push my old street tires very fast.so if nos isnt right for me you have any other ideas for increased hp?i cant stand how slowly it picks up.and if nos would work is there any way that it could automatically kick in for me when needed?thanks for any suggestions.

Well, I dont think that a nitrous system is what you really want to go w/ on your ranger, RangerMotley. I dont really konw much about the 2.3, so I think this would be a really good question to ask on the 2.3 board. I konw that people on there would be able to tell you the best things to do that will help your truck push your tires a little better.

from what i have seen 4 bangers have alot more potential than 2.9s. The have forged cranks, pistons, rods, stroker kits, bolt on turbos and so on. But from what I read in you post, I think that you need a set of gears to get those bigger tires to churning. See what it has in it and then decide what you want to go with.

thanks for your help adam, and bronco, whats this about bolt on turbos?im very interested in this.if youre not busy sometime could you give me a decription or some info on your ideas on supin up the 4 cylinder.im willin to spend about 600 dollars, any ideas in that range?the reason im sayin 600 is because i could pretty much buy a complete v6 mustang engine for that.if you have a site or some more information on this turbo i would REALLY like to hear about it.thanks again you guys.later

I don't know an exact site for a bolt on turbo but I can guarante that if you go that route you will spend a minimum of 1800-2000 bucks. Even if you couldn't find a bolt on turbo for your excact application I am sure you can find a supercharger that will bolt on. I don't know if there is a kit for your exact application but the great thing about aftermarket superchargers is that there are multiple ways to bolt them up which would make it easy to make a mounting bracket and then get a longer belt and with it being a 4banger there is probably alot of room under the hood for hose routing and stuff. Anytime you have a question just ask. For 600 bucks I would really recommend a set of gears in that baby. I think gears run about 300-400 installed and they give you very noticible power increases. And, if you go with gears now and then decide to do a motor swap you will feel even more power out of the new motor because of the gears you will have. Tire size affects gears also. I am running 225/50/15's with are about 3-4 inches shorter than the stockers and my B2 came with 3.73's so with the tire size difference I figure I have a simulated 3.85-3.90 gear ratio. With you going to a bigger tire it is like going down in gear size(smaller tire-easier for engine to turn/bigger tire-boggs engine more)

A turbo isn't that much, keep in mind your motor is N/A and won't take a hi psi turbo, so you'll be running i believe like 5 psi. The 2.5/2.3 section has section devoted to the turbo swap. Easy way is pull a 2.3T outta a turbo mustang or turbo coupe t-bird. Most people were doing it for like 500 bucks. All you have to do is swap motors, and repin the ecu. (don't hold me to it). I've personally never done a turbo install, just S/C's. Which aren't availabe for the 4 bangers.
Hope this helps.
