I am thinking of supercharging my 2.9. I am sure I will need a serpentine belt setup so I checked and all inside diameters of 4.0L accesories are the same and the front covers are the smae so the balncer will work also. I need to convert it to MAF anyway because I heard you could pic up .3 seconds in the 1/4 just by doing that. I think that it would be cool to run around town on 6psi of boost and then get to the track, change out the pully and run 10psi and run with the stangs seeing how I allready have a cam and alot of other stuff. I figure if I can find a used or rebuilt unit and make my own tubes and stuff I could keep the cost down. I am talking about the ones that will bolt on the an accessory bracket not the ones that bolt on to the top of the motor just in case you are wondering.

Your only drawback is gonna be the 2.9's cast crank. It would be much better if you had a forged crank.

Do you happen to konw of anywhere that we can find a forged 2.9 crank? It really wont do me much good since Im gonna be swapping the OHC 4.0, but it doesnt hurt to gather info about stuff for the 2.9 since it all seems either extremely difficult to find, or its just not made.

I don't think a forged crank is totally necessary. My truck is running 8-9 psi all the time without any problems. A roots-style s/c (on top of engine) would provide instantaneous boost and you ccould run into crank probs, but a Paxton-style act more like a turbo and the boost build as rpm increases. This is much easier on parts.

BTW, the Ranger is going to the digs on Friday evening....can't wait to make a full pass without the fuel cutting out... :)

Good point JP. I forgot you're running the turbo setup with the stock crank.
