Over the past few weeks I have detailed 3 of my friends' cars. I used Meguiar's Gel Car Wash, and then Meguiar's Clay Bar with Quick Detailer. Talk about getting all the junk out of paint!! This stuff works awesome!!!!!!!! Makes the paint oooo sooo smooooth. Followed by Meguiar's Polish (step 2) and Meguiar's Wax (step 3). The final results are sooo worth the work. Paint looks brand new and has a great mirror reflection. I totally recomend trying this stuff. I cant wait till I actually get to use it on my own truck :p Just thought I would share my new found wonder.

Can you just clay bar it, or do you have to clay bar and apply the wax afterwards? Does it remove any of the existing wax?

Well to answer the question, I guess it would be no, I always start by clay baring it, then go through the 3 step wax process. Sometimes when clay baring the clay will smear if that happens then you need to use polish or wax to remove it, once done clay baring you want to wipe away the mist with a clean cloth.:king:

Yea, what he said. LOL!! First wash the truck and then use clay bar. Use a soft cloth and wipe off the Quick Detailer. Normally you will have to polish and/or wax afterwards because there is still clay residue on the paint. Also, when the paint is that clean it is the best time to apply wax.

Go to any car part store or wally world, its a clay bar can't describe it any better, you use like mist and shine for lubricant and follow directions, it takes imperfections out of the paint along with sap etc.....:drunk:

One thing I can suggest to you guys is before you start clay barring, wash your vehicle with a good dishwashing soap. The dishwashing soap will remove alot of the old wax on our truck and let the clay bar and polish work better.

I have never tried soap and water, I always just use mist and shine so I guess you could try it and tell us....

The main reason of the lubriant stuuf is to keep you from rubbing off some of the paint or clear coat, soapy water would be ok, but I would not put too much soap in. If you use too much soap or watter the bar will glide over the surface way to easily and will not have as good of cleaning power.

I use Mother's Paint Cleaner for any nasty stuff like that and it works great. I haven't needed a clay bar yet, and I hope I don't have to!

I just spent all day (almost) using the clay bar, meguire's polish and the gold wax. man, this stuff rocks! My truck paint hasn't looked this good since I got it the day it arrived from the factory. I am glad everyone posted on this thread, it is the reason I tried this stuff, and it worked!

Thanks,
Jason

Dishwashing soap is made for use on glass not paint. It will harm your paint and may remove the clearcoat if you have it. Use a carwash product made for use on automotive paint instead. The clay bar will remove the old wax. Eagleone has an excellent booklet available free that explains how to detail everything on your vehicle.

I know there's stuff all over the place that says that your are not supposed to use dishwashing soap to wash your truck.............but POOP! that's all I use.
I've tried every car wash an the shelf and wasn't pleased with the results.
So now I just use plain ol' JOY dishwashing soap.
Works great and hasn't ruined my paint/clearcoat one darn bit.

I use exclusively Maguire's Cleaner-Wax and on occassion I use MOTHER'S California Gold Clay Bar before I use the cleaner-wax.

My truck is a '95 and it's out in the weather almost all the time and the paint is in great shape.

Dishwashing soap take wax off and leaves an flim on it and it is some times hard to get off when it hot out side but you don't have to worry about taking off clear!!!!!!!!! unless it's comet

Well, I have to stand my ground on this one.........Despite what has been said about dishsoap, I have not had any problems with it at all and I even use Hot water with it to help get all the
bird poop, bugs, etc. off my truck and I don't have any problem with it leaving a film or anything else.

My truck looks great and the paint is still in great shape.
In fact lots of people think that it's a brand new truck and it's a '95!
