how hard would it be to swap a DOHC 2.3 into a 85 ranger?
i would assume the motor mounts r the same as the 2.5

The motor mounts and transmission mounts are all different. And you'd have to convert to EEC-V for the computer controls, too.

I don't know how the crossmembers between the SLA trucks and your 85 are going to compare. You might be able to get away with just taking the motor mounts...Y'know, depending on the shape of one you find, you might be better off dropping your body onto the later model frame. Get SLA and R&P steering in the deal...

I'm all for being different, and there are rumors of the Duratec being easily turbochargeable...

along with a slew of aftermarket parts for the same engine family already in use in other countries.
and a company in CA who has an RPSer's truck as a R&D vehicle
and...
and...

go for it man! i think it would be schaweet:nuts:
a little fab work for mounts is easy. upgrade the fuel system. run a stand alone EEC, and your in business!

Yeah the header is supposed to be ready for the test fit soon. As for the rest... We'll see. Id like seeing a turbo Duratec in an 85, very sleeper, very fast! :E

Give it a try!

That would be sweet.

Try to find a later model wrecked 2.3L truck and swap onto that frame.

Yeah, you may have to get a bit creative with the frame and mounts, but if my mechanic friend can put a PI Crown Vic on a K1500 frame--nothing lined up even colse, mind you!--a cross-bred Ranger ought to be a relative piece of cake.

Evolutionary improvements are fresh--take advantage if you can.

an older ranger body would bolt on to a new frame.

so a new duratec 4 cyl should bolt right into place on my 95?

There's a guy selling complete engines for $700 on turboford.org...

With the above considerations about the transmission and motor mounts, yes.

the duratec came out as a 2.3L DOHC in the 2001.5 model year rangers.
it is a completely different motor than the old 2.0/2.3/2.5 SOHC lima motor.
