Hello ya'll....

It's good to see the site back up! Looks great!

Well I've been having some major problems lately with my truck.

About a year ago I installed a Superchip on my truck and everything has been fine. But within the last few weeks or so my truck has been running a little funny (sometimes it wouldnt start, or die crusing down the highway) so I brought it in for the THIRD time at the local dealership to have it looked at. They discovered the Superchip and told me the whole computer needs to be replaced and everything will work fine. Well nothing is under warranty. Thats the bad thing. By tomorrow I'll have a $800+ bill from the dealer for the new computer and labor costs.

They told me I should try to go after Superchip and get a refund and pay for the shop costs. My question is has anyone else had ANY troubles with the chip? Do you think I'll get anything back from Superchip? And I went to their website to look for a phone # to call but nothing was there. So if anyone has a phone # for them that would be great so I can knock some sense into them.

Thanks for your help!

Joe

I hope you tried to just unplug the superchip and use the reg computer. I know out here in LA they will tell you that you need something even if you really don't need it.

If you are going after superchip make sure you keep the old computer and old chip and make sure you get something from the dealer in writing saying the chip blew the computer... without this superchip will just laugh at you!

Before you do anything drastic, take out the chip and see how it runs. Short of frying your computer and wear and tear on the motor, whatever the superchips does should be undone when you pull it out. Did they say specifically what was wrong with the computer? That would be a good thing to know. Good Luck.

The problem is that when the mechanics were trying to figure out what was wrong with the truck they pulled the computer and saw the chip. Then they stopped doing any work because it voids all electrical and mechicanal warrantys. So to have the truck protected I must purchase a new computer for any thing else that could go wrong from now till the end of the warranty in another 10,000 miles.

Now, ever since I had the chip the engine would kill for a few seconds or have troubles starting. This happened once every great while but as of the past 2 or 3 weeks it's almost occuring everyday. So I could testify to Superchip that they sold me a defective chip and hopefully get some money coming my way to solve this messy problem.

Well thats the lastest.....Thanks for your help!

Good news (or bad news depending on which way you look at it)....

I had a 96 2.3L Ranger up until about a year ago when I purchased my 2000 4.0L. Before I sold my old truck, I removed the Superchip and then once my new truck was in, I had the chip reprogrammed for it. Well, it worked great for a few weeks and then started doing the exact same thing that you have described. Sometimes it wouldn't start and it would occasionally die while cruising or even just sitting still. Well, I REMOVED my chip fixing the problem, so that instantly told me my problem was with the chip (HINT-- IF YOU'VE DONE STUFF TO YOUR TRUCK AND IT STARTS TO ACT UP, RETURN TO STOCK TRIM TO SEE IF THAT FIXES YOUR PROBLEM BEFORE TAKING IT TO THE DEALER). I returned to the shop that reprogrammed my chip, explained my problem and it turns out that the chip wasn't making good connection with my computer. Superchip traded me chips and I've been a happy customer ever since.

By the way, I have a friend that is going through the EXACT same thing you are. He's spent that same amount of money getting his computer replaced when the problem was with the chip all along. It was too late for him as well, he had already paid Ford all that money before he told me about his problem.

Sorry I couldn't have helped ya sooner!!

Hi, when I had the SuperChip in my truck, the truck occasionally cuts off while crusing down the road...like you guys mentioned. Til today, I still not sure if that's chip's problem, but from what you guys described, I guess chip is the main factor.

I took the chip out for almost 3 weeks now, due to the overprice in gas, my truck is running fine. No more cut offs while crusing down the road anymore, *done it about 3 times in a 6 months period*at least it hasn't happened yet *knock on wood*

Good Luck to you, MnRanger00!

Not to knock Superchip, but I think this is a good indication why more people are going with Diablo.

If your truck stalls out due to the Superchip you should do something about it, and not drive like that. It could be just dirty connectors which is easy to fix, but if its a problem with the chip then you should send it back to get fixed.

As far as Diablo being better, although I don't believe there is a difference in what the chip does or how it does it, Diablo is doing better as far as customer service (at least in my opinion).

They are a relatively new company though, and I know for a fact that they are still missing a couple of computer programs. I had to scan mine and email it to them to get a chip made. They made the program for the chip fast though, in about 3 days.
