this engine in this truck i found runs great an would only need a gasket job. It bone stock but that would change after I get a good carb and intake. anyways does anyone know if these engines had any major faults? I can get the whole truck for $300 and it has a 5.0L (origional) with a four speed manual tranny. If i can get this setup for $300 i think i'll order the hydraulic slave kit and be done with all this fussin about trying to find the right engine. I think i'll put one in there use one of my other ones to build. Hmmmmmmmmm 1979 5.0L time to do some research....:D

Dunno about the motor, sorry. I'm sure that is good though, i haven't really heard anything bad about any year 5.0 but, most of my knowledge lies in newer EFI's. Search the net. i'm sure you will come up with something.

I'm sure that engine will be fine, it'll definitely make more power than a 4.0 does with a lot more potential when it's modified too. However, the hydraulic slave cylinder adapter is made for the T-5 tranny, and probably won't work with that old 4-speed.

"...has it got any power?"
As-is, probably not a bunch, especially if it's hampered by all the smog ****. BUT, it IS a 5.0, and like Ben said, it'll respond to mods well. Also, you'll be kicking yourself in the long run if you keep that 4-speed (unless you NEVER drive on the highway).

is the 14Km's between the two towns.....one is in quebec and the other is in labrador. outside here is a seven hour road trip on gravel road either way you go. (there's two roads leaving).
thats mainly why i figured the four speed would be ok. i'm going to go with an auto anyways with a ratchet style shifter.:)
