I'm curious to know if someone makes chrome tail light guards. All the ones I have seen are for the Ranger. The tail lights of the ranger are not the same, right? I want something to match the grille guard on the front.

Thanks for any help!

As long as you get one for the fleetside Ranger, it will fit. Same lights.

You're welcome. The reason I said fleetside was I'm not sure if the Splash or the stepside beds had the same lights or not.

Ok, someone please set me straight. Yesterday as I passed a Ranger in the garage, I made a point to look carefully at the tail lights. Are they the same size tail lights that are on a Mazda, but upside down? It appears to me that if you look from the side at a Ranger, the shape of the light is an outward curve from top to bottom, where as the Mazda's is an inward curve. This probably makes no sense, so here's some pics:

BTW, thanks for the help so far everyone! :)

Are those from the same year? I thought the light was the same, but they changed the layout from top to bottom on some of them which wouldn't affect the tail light guards. Let me check a little and see what I can find. You're just asking about the 98's right?

No, they're not from the same year. I didn't know ford changed the lights for the Ranger. The pic of the Ranger light is from a 2000. And, yes, I'm just interested in the 98's.

thanks!

After spending a while looking, here's what I found. Ram, Westin, Smittybilt, Genuine Steel don't offer them for Rangers or Mazdas. Manik has them for 98-00 Rangers in Black ($128) or Stainless ($168). Waag has them for 98-00 Mazdas and Rangers but they look like they are black. Here's a link to them:

http://www.suvbrushguards.com/mazdbsertail.asp

Their part number for the Mazda is 13537 and the Ranger is 13512, which would say they aren't the same.

Go Rhino (gorhino.com) has a listing for 93-01 Rangers, same part fits all, but no Mazda. Looks like they are just a large guard that fits well beyond the light. They had a .pdf file you can download to check the apps.

That's all I could find, sorry about telling you they should fit. There's probably one of the universal styles that would but it would take a actual comparison to find out.

I found these by typing "tail light guards" in yahoo's search window, if you want to check out some other sites. I think I got all the major suppliers, but there are some custom sites listed that I didn't check. Maybe Mazda carried over an earlier Ranger tail light?

You're welcome Highwayman. It surprised me there weren't any chrome ones available, the ones in the link appear to be only in black. Maybe you could get them chromed. Or call Waag, maybe since they make chrome ones they could chrome you a set anyway. Also surprised me how expensive most of these things are, seems like a lot for a little tubing.

The Mazda tails actually have a lot sharper contour at the bottom of it...
